RIP Mig-23ML. You had a good run while it lasted

I’m curious why the Hornet earned the title of monster (although I didn’t understand what kind of hornet was talking, about… prem? XD).

The AIM-7P isn’t fundamentally different from the AIM-7F/M (it’s not something like the R-27ER of the MiG-29, which can fly over 40 km and hit a target), they aim-7 are still easily dodged by flying below 60 meters etc. Moreover, the AIM-7p itself often behaves erratically and is quite slow—in my experience, it rarely accelerates beyond Mach 2.5 in ARB.

In short - typical aim-7…

Additionally, the Hornet while dynamics, is not a particularly fast fighter and you can simply outrun it in terms of speed

I’ve never used a flanker in sim but from when I learned the Su-33 it doesn’t feel good. The MiG-23ML is going to stay one of the top prems for a while, aguably better than things like the F/A-18C and MiG-21Bison

It’s only really important at incredibly close range, I view most short range IR missiles as kind of a “sidearm”, not really what you’re trying to use but lethal nonetheless.

I leave this to you

I’ve been using the F-4S to grind the hornet recently and it’s air to air capabilities feel so much worse compared to last year. Not able to lock targets until you’re half a mile away, MiG-23s being unlockable for some reason, constantly seeing Su-27s, and so on. I mainly bomb in it now because using it actively for direct air to air combat is really worthless, plus the added of less players left and all them are tunneling really helps its lethality

Funny, I’ve use them the other way around with more success, but the off-bore launches with aim9L don’t seem to work as good like they did a year ago.

At rear aspect and short range I prefer the r-60m since it accelerates faster, when the enemy reacts the missile will be closer than the aim9L in the same situation and is more likely to ignore flares.

From more than 1km the aim9L seems to have a little better flare resistance but still trash and easy to flare off. The jets that have some trouble flaring them like the f-14 or harriers, have the same difficulty dealing with r-60m

The AIM-7P actually seems to lock better and more consistently. However, I don’t own the Early so I can’t confirm within a real match. Past that it’s just an AIM-7F/M with IOG and Datalink. More comparable to the R-27R in terms of usability, minus some range

AIM-9L is useless since the nerf.

Does the datalink offer the Aim-7P the ability to launch in TWS with the soft lock, or do you still need to hard lock first?

No, I’m pretty sure softlock only applies to ARHs. Either way the 7P needs a hardlock to my knowledge

Thanks, I wasn’t sure on that front.

I test flew the TT F-18A and was surprised to see TWS, but was only able to launch in hard lock so I was curious in regards to the Datalink on the 7P.

You need a hard lock, but you can unlock after launching and only lock again to course correct mid path if needed and then lock in the terminal phase.

Just like the R-27R/ER

F4S is main axample of jet, what doesnt lose anything against air when equipping napalms.

But then, there is also people who equip full bombs, and then cry when that F4S cant fight against enemy jets. It’s true that it is in hard place on 12.0 especially when facing 13.0

It’s in a horrible state with its radar. The way it acts now renders it hardly usable.

A good bomber tho

SHAMEEEEE
bombing in a MiG-23 is crazy, it can’t even take a full base without napalm and those gives lower rewards.

About that, before the F-18 you were less likely to see aim-54s. Now that almost every match you play is a full uptier to 12.7 you will probably be seeing more tomcats

Harder to flare overall. Not strictly related to just base bombing. Although if you do pay attention enough, you can flare them off, usually by pre-flaring.

Napalm gives lower rewards? When did they nerf napalm?

They never did, It’s always been like this actually. The rewards are based on the explosive mass of the ordinance, not how the base is damaged.

Weird, because when I napalmed with a MiG 23ML in Sim, I got 14.3k RP for a single base. When I used the Kfir, I got 12k RP

Depends on the bracket, aircraft, and multipliers. Suggest trying a bomb and napalm in the same aircraft to see the difference. There’s also a chance gaijin changed how it worked, if the did I’d bet on it being back when rocket damage was fixed.

I believe I get 14.3K with the MiG 21Bison as well. Then again, 12.3 matches are rare
