Wow, one (two) Russian is too strong. Clearly the best solution is blanket nerf all CAS instead of, idk, just nerf the vehicle that’s too strong.
They don’t even need to change it. Just add a new mode.
Without changes, players that like combined arms will be happy.
With new mode, players that like tanks will be happy.
Win-Win. What’s not to like about that?
Let’s not exaggerate. Never said anything about a nerf. Nor is it just one, or two planes. Each country now has a great CAS plane. A simple tweak of the game mode, would make a world of difference
Like I said, that has raged on for years now. There was one threat that was months old, and dozens of pages long, on a tanks only mode.
The mods have made that clear. Gaijin is too worried about ice times. Although in this day and age, that is far from an issue
In its current form, Realistic Ground Battles is becoming increasingly difficult to describe as a true tank-focused game mode. Over time, the gameplay has shifted toward something that many players — not without a hint of sarcasm — have started calling “Air Ground Pound Battles.” The presence and impact of aircraft and helicopters have grown to the point where they often overshadow the core element of the mode: tank combat.
It’s important to emphasize that the issue isn’t the mere existence of CAS. The problem lies in the scale, pace, and influence it can have during the very first minutes of a match. A single well-equipped aircraft or helicopter is often capable of eliminating a large portion of the ground team before tank players even engage in their first meaningful encounter. This disrupts the tactical nature of the mode and turns what should be a tank battle into a quick trip back to the spawn screen.
The irony becomes even more apparent when compared to ARB (Air Realistic Battles). In ARB, no player can spawn at the start of the match in an advanced anti-air system with IRST and instantly wipe out half of the enemy team. Such a scenario would be unacceptable — and rightly so. Yet in GRB, this kind of asymmetrical interference from aircraft is somehow considered normal, despite undermining the very foundation of ground-focused gameplay.
This is why an increasing number of players are expressing the need for a clear, fair separation of modes. Such a solution would not only organize the current structure but also allow each group of players to enjoy the exact type of gameplay they prefer.
The most commonly proposed division is as follows:
1. Ground-Only Realistic Battles
– exclusively ground vehicles,
– a focus on tactics, positioning, maneuvering, and actual tank-to-tank engagement,
– no immediate impact from CAS at the start of the match.
2. Mixed Realistic Battles (MRB)
– a fully mixed mode with tanks, aircraft, helicopters, and SPAAs,
– for players who enjoy dynamic, combined-arms engagements,
– essentially what current GRB has become, but clearly labeled as such.
This division would serve as a fair compromise, satisfying both groups:
– players who want realistic tank battles,
– and players who prefer full combined-arms warfare.
The current GRB, positioned somewhere between the two, increasingly fails to satisfy either side.
The goal of raising this issue is not to “remove CAS,” but to restore mode clarity and give players a meaningful choice. If the mode is called “Ground Battles,” many players simply expect to be able to fight on the ground — not to be eliminated by a bomb or missile seconds after the match begins.
A well-implemented separation between a pure ground mode and Mixed Realistic Battles would greatly improve gameplay quality and allow all players to fully enjoy the type of experience they are looking for.

No i would not like to play tank only mode as it would be removing another realistic feature from war thunder. War thunder is already not a very realistic game
i dont think a tank only mod is needed, especially bcs gaijin hates increasing queue times. What i think is really needed, is increase by 50% the SP cost for any CAS vehicle in game
That will delay the CAS spawning sure. But once in the air, the domination begins. Same old problem.
And according to the Poll - it is needed. Of 1200 votes 64% said they would play TO.
it does not really matter how high the spawn cost is cas mains will still bring cas
so all we really do is by increasing spawn cost is to make it more of a killstreak
yeah, but the thing i think is the problem, is the amout of planes. increasing spawn cost would lower the amount of CAS by a lot and dealing with less planes is much easier.
only problem is those few that are up will be more skilled
A lot of variability in these questions. CAS at 10.0 is a lot different than at 5.0 … Same with SPAA. Too strong at some BR and to weak at others.
Cas for me holds all the cards they are stupidly OP like flying soo high radar dont detect them or missiles cant reach them but they can drop bombs perfectly on moving targets. Its like helis in high br i get killed by them and they are sat on there heli pads so they can get limitless ammo and spaa cant hit them as both cas and heli can lock and fire at tanks through trees and bushes but spaa cant lock through trees and bushes.
Nope, it’s never been that. That’s just ppl who don’t like CAS coping.
That means splitting player count even more because:
What if arcade players want tank only?
What if rb players want tank only?
What if sim players want tank only?
What if that 2.5 naval players want naval only?
And what if AI tank formation wants tank only to not get bombed by players?
10.3-12.3 queues might go even more crazy every sales
So You mean that there is so many people wanting to just play tanks that it will make a significant impact on que times?
Then that can be considered as well.
All of these modes can be split off by just copying them and disabling plane spawns.
I’ve not seen many naval players complain about CAS.
Then you can have full AI battles simulated inside your head if you wish.
