Responding to issues regarding dev server reports & an update on spall lining armor from the developers

This patch is almost insulting lmao

Its not just you

So yes, you do use it as a vague codeword for “anything I don’t happen to like but can’t be bothered to defend”, that has no definition, gotcha.

In that case, I agree, there’s nothing more to say. Since your suggestion about how to run the game better than Gaijijn therefore just boils down to “I’d add things that I think are good and fewer things that I think are bad” lol, there’s not much one can reply to that.

The gaijin forum experience.

@Zucc_Boi
Sir Russian, people aren’t employees of Gaijin if they lack icons next to their name.
Stop provoking NATO players.

@_FurioSS
Calm down with your anti-NATO provocations.

No, it’s not moving goalposts. They did not add premiums at top rank. Just because they decide to lower the BR of top rank, and that moves premiums into there, doesn’t change the fact that they’re not adding new premiums to top ranks.

Yes, you could buy top rank prems for 2 updates, but that’s because they made one big economy update back then so the players only have to adjust once instead of changing up the ranks every update for nitpickers like you.

You can progress without premium time and vehicles.
If you say you can’t, then obviously you’re dismissing that WT is more than just getting to top tier ASAP. You don’t get literally 0 RP without premium time.
Oh suprise, a F2P game that finances itself mostly over progression instead of P2W has slow progression if you play like an hour or two a week. Maybe that is because you’re not paying for a product that had alot of expenses to produce and still maintain after 10 years.

I suspect, that in a bid to get the patch out before christmas leave, Gaijin ditched the expected 2nd Dev Server in favour of a release at the “usual” time. The impacts of this, are of course catastrophic. Not enough time was given from the end of Dev 1 to cover all of the Bug Reports, Data, suggestions/corrections.

Which now means that the poor forum mods are going to be working overtime with very very angry players yelling left right and centre stuff to the tune of “RUSSIAN BIAS” and “NATO MAINS SHOULD STOP CRYING” when very clearly a lot of extra work was needed.
We have a half arsed Chally 3, Leo 2A7, T-90M, no fair/proper spall liner implementation, Ariete and Leclerc Reports ignored and so on. I haven’t seen or heard anything regarding the air trees but if this was anything to go by god help us.

Amazing when you consider we have like 20 years of experience of what happens when something is rushed. I don’t know if developers are aware of this or not, but you degrade your product and image the more and more you do it.

This patch absolutely needed at least another week minimum. It’s the 14th. There’s still half a month left. I feel safe is making the assumption that if they had just come out and admitted they needed more time and then taken it, a clear majority wouldn’t be as pissed. The era of vehicles we are now in is going to require a lot of careful implementation to balance.

Subsequently, it wouldn’t have hurt to delay some features if today absolutely had to be the launch day. Spall liners could’ve waited. Full stop. Personally, I don’t think the game needs them in the slightest and I’d much rather see them removed completely. But clearly the amount of vehicles with them now in the game is definitely underwhelming.

Rank 8 ground could’ve also waited until there was more to flush it out. It has now complicated the progression for a lot of vehicles for absolutely no benefit to the player. And the lack of additional premiums to aid in that grind is a weird call considering how every nation got a premium high-tier aircraft when rank 8 for air launched.

The pissed off reactions are absolutely warranted and it is 100% a self-inflicted problem. To be clear, the frustration with this patch is no free ticket to harass mods. But the frustration is rightly there.

(Edited for spelling and cleaning up of ideas).

T-90M is half assed? Honestly i didnt hear any complain about it. The only ones i didnt hear complains about are the T-90M and the strv122b+ . The VT-4a1 apparently is modeled very bad as well. And that should be all top tier additions then

Quite funny isn’t it?

Welp im gonna grind russia
If you can’t beat them join them

Enjoy underwelming tanks cause they’re infinitely more balanced than tech tree mains can ever know.

Sweden has the most armored tanks of War Thunder, yet people yell Russian bias when Soviets finally get one.

When i referenced the T-90M, i was referencing the spall lining and quite frankly ridiculous UFP values.

They haven’t been doing 2 dev servers for a couple major updates now, they usually just update the dev server, which they did this time, too. On the other hand, the dev server runs for longer than it used to.

And a game like WT can’t just skip christmas updates, that would be bad for player retention and reeling in new players/getting old ones back. It’s better for them to fix problems afterwards than to not chime in on the christmas hype. They’re still a company, and if they don’t make enough profits, the investors and share holders won’t be happy. And I doubt they’d listen to “but this would be more fun for the existing players”. It’s a huge shame, but that’s a problem with capitalism as a whole, not this game specifically.

Lastly, yes the spall liner implementation is a bit unfair, but they always do this stuff in increments, like new cockpits, adding customizable loadouts, or drop tanks. Not to forget people just yelling “but X tank has spall liners too!!!” without any info on what and where specifically it is, Gaijin can’t do much about it. They’ll need time to research that, and the info likely won’t be accessible for every tank.

Sure, they could just not add them, but new features keep games alive.

“clear”

→ missing every single person that doesn’t go to the forum/reddit/whatever for WT, and might be pissed that there isn’t a christmas update like most other F2P games have

I can guarantee you, what you think is a majority is nothing but a vocal minority.

research to rank 7 with your premium, research the comparatively few rank 8s with rank 7s. Why do some people act as if there’s only prems and top rank tanks, and there’s no way of reaching a rank you don’t have a premium for? You have to buy your rank 7s anyway if you want to get your rank 8s.
You could even say it is preventing people from rushing top rank tanks and making them get other research lines too so they have a better lineup and don’t have to one death leave with their top rank tank, too.

As long as you realize that it’s your subjective opinion. imo it might make for a good slowdown of the one-shot-kill-rush, especially good to prevent dying to badly aimed shots, making aiming a bit more of a necessity. That in turn would make “holding W” much less of a working tactic. I’ll judge it when I’ve got more experience with and against spall liners.

So would new maps, long-time requested game mechanic reworking/improvements like 8v8 air battles, bomber cockpits, new modes, and so on.

Have to disagree with what sounds like ) and I could be wrong) a justification of one of the worst practices in the gaming industry. Pumping out half-backed, bug-ridden, unbalanced products only to patch them is a terrible practice most players don’t care for even in AAA games. Doing right by the players doesn’t have to come at the expense of profits either.

I struggle to see how a…

“Wow, this is bad. They clearly didn’t care to resolve these issues before launch. They keep doing this too. Definitely won’t recommend this to friends considering them game, and will leave a review to reflect that”

…is far better for both the player’s experience and the company’s success than…

“I’m glad they took the extra time to fix those issues. It’s good to see the developers recognize that this needed more time and clearly value the feedback we put forth. Considering how most studios don’t do this, definitely a win for developers and I’d be happy to recommend this game to others”.

Sure, it may sound cliche or a bit on the nose but it’s very much a example of a convo I’ve seen with people regarding WT. Do I recommend this game? No, not really. Not with how it has been the past couple of years.

They’re regularly adding new maps, long-time requested by a vocal minority on the forum, bombers really aren’t a priority as you can easily see, new modes would divide the playerbase, further increasing queue times (take a big guess why wargaming also only has one mode most of the time. they do have a few more for WoT, but all limited to events that go for just a few weeks, and are rare)

It is a justification of one of the worst practices in the game industry. but it’s based in capitalism. new shiny stuff = (usually) better player retention, more new players. especially at important times like christmas, where people can throw away their christmas money. there is a reason that the christmas/new years sales are roughly as good as the anniversary sales while the summer sales suck.

I bet you any other patch of the year (except before anniversary sales) they’d be more willing to postpone a patch.

Update is live. Just checked and neither top Abrams, Leclerc, or Merkava have their spall liners.
Gaijin either disable spall liners for the Leopard, T-80BVM, T-90M, and Challenger, or add to those 3 their spall liners as well.
