I just had time to watch the CBT video that answers some of the questions and I feel like I did this a bit incoherently before. I want to emphasize on the title but also give some of my thoughts on the mode.
If there is going to be a new 4th mode, it will be a disappointment if development is going to steer the same way as with ground, air and naval. When this game started out it was a nice bridge gap between casual shooters and the extremely immersive sims. With time apparently there was no care for that anymore. Any unique objectives and modes were removed for copy paste operations on maps that play terrible in relation to the game mechanics that exist.
There’s an option to opt out for a tank only mode, which I think is boring and further takes the game down the line of reducing dynamic elements and also immersion so I don’t believe in such a take.
CAS is probably the most noteworthy of these dynamic gameplay elements. Adding dynamics to a war simulating game like this feels good, but it isn’t complemented by the maps nor the spawning mechanics. A CAS plane is easily able to spawn camp you just because of the sheer small size of the maps, but also single point spawns. It forces you to rely upon the spawn protection mechanic: a very uncreative and non-immersive band aid fix to something that needs more attention.
Speaking of CAS, I noticed the lack of it despite the infantry trailer before. I’m assuming it was removed maybe because somebody noticed the amount of spawncamping you could do with an even smaller map than the GRB ones. It would be nice to see planes too in the infantry mode for a proper combined arms experience. Preferably without the spawn camping so paying attention to how this mode is made and balancing it properly.
This game hosts 3 modes, yet they all play relatively similarly. Yes markers do impact gameplay, but from a wider viewpoint the experience you are getting when you play is not much different. You go into these 1-3 lane maps that funnel you into instant action. Or in air the engagement distances for each plane are so short it’s difficult for the average player to pay attention to literally everything being concentrated in one spot. Not every type of player wants this and that’s been voiced by the community several times. If there is a new mode being made from the ground up, now would be a good time to listen to that feedback and do something about it.
Make arcade for people who like instant action, simulator a simulator and realistic something in-between.
The CBT did not give me a lot of confidence, but I’m hoping what’s being said is true that it is only a test of the mechanics. The gunplay and graphics looked good, but that’s all I can say currently. I won’t be interested in buying a premium ak-47 if this has the exact same frustrations as GRB does. I’m never buying anything for this game again until something is done about the issues that can’t be just brushed off with “It’s the player’s fault” or “Go play another game” Devs have clearly given a damn about it in the past.
Summary: Give us something that makes you feel like a infantry man on the front. Not a (popular title) clone and be better in-touch with the community. Otherwise a new mode is only ignoring the seeping cracks with something shiny and new that will lose it’s novelty real quick.
Old discussion: (irrelevant)
Arcade and Realistic play the exact same. It’s both instant action. I can see why aircraft were removed from consideration. If they were added into the mix, there would have been too much spawn camping in the tests because the formula is the same as GB.
Why is there an all encompassing fog at distance that doesn’t allow you to see further than 300m? The trailer didn’t have that. Is there no consideration for players who want slower paced combat? Why even make 2 modes with barely any difference?
