It’s crazy, man. The only thing the M-51 has going for it is the penetration, but that penetration can’t even guarantee an OHK. All these KrautBoos and IvanBoos see is the pen number and proceed to have a bloody meltdown.

Even a direct hit doesn't guarantee you kill the crew member. I've slugged a Conqueror APDS into the crotch of a T-44 turret crewman and he turned red. The spalling killed the guy next to him and the shell went on to destroy the engine block... but the guy it directly impacted survived

It’s not M-51’s problem, but rather Gaijin’s problem.
M-51 is one and only reserve-ish vehicle in israel TT
and one of their first prem was M-51 either. :/
Meanwhile, the only other 6.0BR option is M109 for Jewish guys.
If you think a M51 being hulldown sniping with HEAT is problematic wait until you run into a Fiat 6614 or SPz-12 hulldown where only the microscopic gun is poking out.

So? Ikv 103 has 400mm pen at a lower BR and no one complains. Plus, the M51 is slow, heavy, and has no armor, unlike the Ikv 103, which is relatively fast and small.

The Sherman Firefly can pen a tiger with the 17pdr machine gun (admittedly not from any range, but at least from within the confines of a map) and is at 4.7 br, and nobodies whining about it

Ppl who cry about m51 are germany and russia mains that use to rely on armor rather then skill and position
M51 punish them for that so they cry about it

M51’s hull armor isn’t great, but neither is it the same as the 3.3 one…
The 3.3 one is 51mm, M51’s is 64mm, like the 5.0 M4A1 (76)W.
Which, as I said, isn’t great; but saying that it’s the same as the 3.3 M4A1 is wrong.
That’s regarding the hull, of course. The mantlet/turret front is literally better than Tiger I’s.
M51 is basically M4A1 (76)W (5.0), except using AMX-30 (8.0)’s gun. I find it odd that it’s just 6.0. Not saying that it should be 7.7, but I can’t see why it can’t be at least 6.7-7.0.

Fair enough but it makes sense that it would have better amor, seeing as it was retrofitted after WWII

I can see the premium M51 being moved up to 6.3 or 6.7 as it uses the Sherman hull with good mobility

That’s why I said 6.7 or 7.0 at most, and not 7.0+…
And why is it an issue for M51 and its AMX-30 gun, but not for the Tiger IIs which, although having better armor in theory, it’s rendered obsolete by the 7.7 firepower too, while being just about as slow?

7.7 means constant uptiers to 8.7 due to popularity of tanks at 8.7. Tell me how is a sherman with no mobility and no armor and only HEAT gonna compete with something like a T-55AM-1 or a T-62 or a Object 435 or a M60 RISE
