The gunner is significantly lower than the gun, so you can peak with only the gun. You cannot do this in the Fox or XM800. Sure, people can shoot the ammo, but its a very hard shot at anything apart from close range.

Turret is definitely manned as gunner literally sits inside.

The point is that you can peak without exposing any of your crew
can you check how many nukes has he dropped
this is what it needs:
- lower BR per your suggestion like 6.3
- fill up the seats with crew members (like type 89 IFV) so the survivability will be higher, this could be done for many tanks that can carry extra ppl
if they add the modernised version with STAB and APFSDS it’s fine in 7.3-7.7 maybe 8.0 (also this version need the max amount of ppl that can carry as crew
Size is also very important. BTR is a bus, easy to spot, hard to hide behind obstacles. Fox is tiny, put it behind a rock etc. an no one spots ya.
I realized this with the 20mm gunned Wiesel vs. the 20mm Luchs. The latter one is a huge bus (like a heavy tank), the Wiesel is a tiny racing cart. Beside that they’re mostly identical in a gameplay sense.
While the Luchs is absolutely useless (I never see anyone playing it huge failwagon), the Wiesel can be used successfully. Tiny size opens up alot nice ratting options.

Not higher than those two, but much closer than you think. Especially with an unmanned turret. It isn’t my fault that some people haven’t discovered that ceiling yet, or heck, even the floor.
Absolutely. Everything you state is correct- it is a support vehicle and should be played as such. It is not a solo rider like the Fox or XM800T. I don’t mind it going down in BR at all- I just think its removal is ridiculous
Although, one thing about it going down in BR- it will face vehicles that are much harder for it to pen more often like the KTs or the Late American Heavies. Yes you may see an odd Sherman or two, but lowering it won’t make playing the BTR easier.
In case you have not noticed. If there is anything that 2A72 slightly outperforms Rh202, that’s the penetration, 3UBR8 can actually penetrate American Heavies’ side armor at close range. I don’t think you know this vehicle better than I do.
And another thing. BTR80A is already facing KTs EVERY DAY AND NIGHT. If the BR is lowered, then perhaps BTR80A would really have the chance to face tigers or Jumbos, which really CAN be killed by 2A72 with 3UBR8. Or even better, you can kill some M41 and hellcats, or the medium tanks.
Yeah absolutely wonderful idea. Peak with a 330rpm 30mm autocannon and 82mm pen APDS (150 rounds only), at a BR where literally every single opponent is a 70-ton-heavy tank. And they can still kill the gunner, even if they know nothing about “switching to HE round and blow that metal coffin to pieces”.

Honestly I really feel like checking the service records of many “BTR80A lovers” in this topic. I do want to know if they play this vehicle better than I do, or if any of them could really manage to reach K/D1 in this lack-of-firepower-and-mobility bus.
And, by “support role”, I believe you mean “scout”, because again, BTR80A cannot do AA work, neither can it kill ground vehicles effectively. So what can BTR80A do? pick a spot, play dead, use the binoculars to scout-literally every light tank can do that. The difference is, other light tanks can actually kill something. Or, they could at the very least hide themselves, because NONE OF THEM IS A FRICKING BUS.

Very funny, because you haven’t ever played any BTR80A. Oh and, on the first and second page of your service record, there are barely any ground vehicle with K/D above 1. Did you play this game to torture yourself or torture your teammates?

Gaijin should remove the BTR-80 and refund SL and RP back, this vehicle has no place in the game, it’s the equivalent of adding a M113 with a 50 cal only and asking players to do to something with it. There are better, experimental/modern variants that would’ve been a better fit for WT, Ukraine’s BTR-4 comes to mind.
