You still can have them - at least in Air RB around BR 4.0. Depending on daytime and server selection is not uncommon to get small JP vs US/UK matches (usally 6 vs 6) on Saipan, Iwo Jima, Guadalcanal or New Guinea.
Unfortunately most of the players have no clue how to fight above Pacific maps, so the matches end usually extremely fast. Either because you have 4 JP bombers and 2 A6Ms vs 6 US/UK Fighters or because US boys go ground pounding (mainly Iwo Jima & Saipan) and bring themselves in bad positions.
These days are long gone - since March or May last year even AA on cargo ships can take you out (if you fly a JP plane) and from my pov aaa on US carriers got relatively stronger than JP carriers. About half a year ago i watched 2 US P-47s trying to take out aaa on JP carriers - it took ages until they were hit - but if you try to catch a US/UK plane landing on their carriers u are dead <1 minute.
