Remove artillery strikes

fr

arty has always been crap, its not like squad where it costs your team valuable time and manpower to build it or tickets to use it, granted arty there is more deadly but here its just low skill low effort spam to make your ears hurt

I wouldn’t mind its removal or better yet we get a seperate game mode where there is no cheapo arty strikes or CAS, only ground vehicles settling their scores, now THAT is the type of gameplay I’ve been waiting since 1970

it could also easily be made more in depth mechanic and strategically viable, for example make it more deadly and accurate, but have it cost a small amount of sp like 100 and limit it to once per tank, it would be spammed less and used with actual purpose

Ngl the best idea I’ve seen is it be exclusive to tanks that have trouble killing other vehicles (e.g M16, SAM SPAAs, and R3 T20), and instead of the artillery we have right now, we have the precision strike from the Mechanized Infrantry Aprill fools update.

Sorry but combined arms games are simply more popular.

You’re right, after all, anyone with a radio in their vehicle can call for help and artillery, not just certain vehicles…
And the area covered should not depend on the distance, but on the desired effect.

Okay I don’t usually say this but skill issue. If you just sit there and let it hit you, you could be hit but if you move you don’t get hit case closed. Personally I think they should be more widely spread over a large area.

Welcome to real war? It sucks to be on the receiving end of indirect fire (my callsign was changed to “mortar magnet” during one deployment). As one person complained, you can’t fight back against the artillery. That’s the way it really is–the arty guys these days do have sophisticated counter-battery capability, but that’s not something a tank crew sees or even thinks about. So, yep…part of what sucks about enemy arty is that you can’t shoot back at them with your tank.

If anything, based on my experience, the effectiveness of artillery is really toned down in the game.

Arty usually fires in batteries of 6-8 tubes. That seems to be replicated in-game. But we’re only seeing what looks like a battery-1 mission (1 round per gun, less spotting rounds). A modern 155mm HE round has a lethal burst radius of about 50 meters, but damage can occur up to 400m from the impact point–that’s half the map for a typical Warthunder game. We aren’t seeing that. Further, the guns drop a “sheaf”–so imagine an interlocking batch of circles (“tight” or “loose”). We’re definitely seeing “tight.”

As you increase in BR level the number of open-tops goes down, the tanks are better armored, and so arty has less effect. That’s realistic. But the “golden bb” is still factor–again realistic. Your crew is probably not going to survive a 105-155 size round impacting on the roof of the vehicle.

If Gaijin hasn’t introduced Dual Purpose Improved Conventional Munition (DPICM) rounds (e.g. cluster munitions with an anti-armor capability) at the higher BRs, be grateful.

That’s a long way of saying that artillery is a part of the battlefield. I think it should stay. I would like to see the option to ask for smoke instead of HE, or the ability to lay-in a target line with my cursor. I can think of a number of times that laying a line of smoke in front of the SPG “line” would’ve helped the team in a game.

last destroyed tank (today) - Königstiger

The in game artillery is more like mortar fire rather than artillery. The irony is that we share the field of play with artillery firing 155 directly at us now.Taking out any tank it hits in one regardless of armour. Imagine a barrage of that?

As for smoke we have smoke shells but few players can see the value in them. They have been match winners for me many a few times.
Some games like Company of Heroes have creeping batteries and smoke cover but they are played at a more strategic level.

I completely agree with you. BTW, I really dislike seeing the SP hows as “tank destroyers.” If an SP has to go direct fire then things are FUBAR.

It was a sad day when they introduced that.In a game that claims to be realistic.

Still I guess realism in armoured warfare is eight hours in a tank on a hot day with a gunner whose Rat Pack didn’t agree with him .
The irony of the Iraqis not using Gas was not wasted there.

Maybe VR headsets that release methane are the future.
That would give the OP something to whine about .Smell the realism : )

Hey, now there’s an idea…a bad one…replace CAS with MLRS or BM-21 strikes? ;-)

Why?

Cope post?

They are so easy to evade.

I have no idea why people like artillery, just more RNG to an extremely heavy RNG game that exists for no reason but to create additional chaos and visual feedback.

Actually you hit upon something there. If you have the SP use it to call in MRLS in higher BR games.

It’s such a non entity I can’t believe this thread had even gone on as long as it has.

We have artillery pieces firing 155mm at point blank in a game that is mostly WW2 and people are losing their shit over something few people even bother with.

you answered your own problems about arty tanks

In addition, all the self-propelled howitzers that GJ has brought into play shoot on the move. As far as I know, the first one that can actually do this is currently being built, but it has not yet been deployed in any army.

It’s already bad enough that thinks like bradley can’t shoot on the move. ngl it seems like Warthunder just isn’t the game for you
