Honestly the old system with a better tutorial or explanation would be massively better… or even removing the update times in arcade and just letting the aim point suggestion move based on the enemy movements in real time. This new system is still a massive L in my current opinion, especially with how buggy it has been.
Let me demonstrate how stupid the new aiming system is by using some images that I drew.
Both you and the target are moving, you got him locked on, and he is turning his ship
In the old aiming system, with an experienced player, you will know that the target won’t change his location for at least 20-30 seconds. So what you need to do is fire directly to his current location, knowing that the shell will hit him. Then firing the second slavo to his new location like the firing system told you to do so. What would be two direct hit slavos
Now, the same scenario but with the new aiming system, while your gunner is controlled by AI, here is what would happen. You still locked on the target and you want your shell to hit on his turret for example, and you move your indicator to the turret and fire. The gunner with his new aiming system wouldn’t care that the target is moving on a curve line, he would fire like if that target is moving on a straight line and will miss his first shot. After that when the target’s location has changed but still on the curve line, the gunner will still think that the target is on a straight line and fire hias second shot, which would be a miss shot. Then, when the target is finally moving on the straight line, the gunner fire his shot and that would be a direct hit.
That would be acceptable in low BR, when we have a fast reloading time. But imagine that we are on top BR, with around 30-40s reloading time on a big battleship, now that would be a huge problem. “2 minutes and 3 shots just to get your first hit” or “get hit your enemy with your first shot”, what would be better?
So what was in arcade for the last few years while I played Naval arcade and enjoyed it?
And in ground or air arcade?
Answer; some help for players but not auto-aim to dumb down the game to the point it is not enjoyable. And ultimately isn’t the game supposed to be fun?
Not sure how much naval you have played before and after the change, but logically or not, it has made Naval arcade worse.
Why you didn’t compensate the enemy turn by moving crosshair sideway to hit him from the first shoot? Why you do this with old system and don’t do this with new one, who told you you don’t need that?
for doing this a indicator where the guns actual aim would be very helpful - it can be done w/o but its more difficult
Of course you know this as you suggested such a indicator
Definetely.
Since Naval RB does not have enough people, I am usually forced to play Naval AB. the new targeting system is so annoying.
alt+tab, grab a drink, play tic tac toe on your phone or whatever while the game searches for an RB match
select all three servers/enable join match in process if you really dont have a lot of patience
I genuinely dont understand why people subject themselves to AB when the alternative is just to wait a few minutes
I encourage everyone concerned to vote - I don’t mind which way you vote so long as you vote!

The bugs in the CURRENT aimbot mess are more numerous and onerous than the previous bug. Hands down.
Naval Realistic is too slow. The matches too long. The torpedos useless.
Previously, NRB was great for gunboats, NAB was great for torp boats… or people who want to move faster and have a quicker gaming experience. People play NAB for all the same reason they play Tank Arcade Battles. They ain’t trying to spend all day in their heavy tank trying to maneuver into position. They want to drop in their toys, wreck stuff up with a modicum of skill and drop again.
Realistic is for when you got a half hour. Arcade for when you want a 15min drop. Very simple.
The thing about the previous aiming is that it was broken as well. They started breaking/nerfing it about 2 years ago. It got worse ever since they added that shell indicator in the top left corner. It got so bad that they were forced to speed up the lead calculation to compensate. I was able to predict the lead without the aiming assist, but when it got calculated, it told me to shoot like an inch or more ahead where I was aiming, even though the enemy ship was already going at full speed and my shots were hitting the enemy ship. Very often I had to aim like an inch or more ahead of the indicated marker when trying to shoot at fast torpedo boats. Also, very often the shells would undershoot, even if I was aiming over the ship going at the angle slowly towards me. Sometimes I would raise the aim by 1-2 inches as well and it would still undershoot. It was a total mess, and didn’t make any sense so it looks like they were forced to scrape it for something else. I don’t know if they were screwing it up on purpose or just by pure incompetence, but it looks to me they are trying to merge Naval Arcade with WT Mobile, so scraping the old system was convenient for them.
If they bring the old aiming system back, it would better be the one from 2+ years ago or even the more original one that was still there during 1st and 2nd BP (that was my favorite).
I noticed this too. But at least we had SOME indicator, SOME frame of reference to learn from and adjust. We don’t have that now. We have a system that doesn’t tell us what it is doing and gives us no real way or intuitive understanding, to know what is going on (where are my guns? how do they behave when I fire or target a ship.
I’m down for any system that allows me to adjust sights and choose where my rounds are directed. We don’t have that at all.
In short, I agree.
As has been mentioned before I think the reason why Gaijin made this change was because of a lack of players. They wanted to make it easier for people to play.
Its a crap change true, I dont play naval and I still dont approve of it.
I dont play naval for some of the same reasons I dont like air. The game play is just complete crap.
Aiming in War Thunder is terrible because it was designed for small boats with ranges of 3-5 km. The current arcade mode, while not perfect, actually addresses and mitigates some of these issues — such as constant target visibility on fast speeds and distances, dependence on weapons for some ships aka useless main guns, simultaneous aiming of secondary and main guns considering their ballistics, close-range aiming, parallax bugs when closing in, and other quirks. It also makes many underperforming ships (like those without rangefinders but with large guns) playable, which were previously hardly used or only played with AA guns ignoring the main caliber. Yes, the developers could have done this more elegantly; they could have implemented a dependency in accuracy for aiming and repositioning the guns with different delays as modern vs old ships difference, kept the information about barrel directions intact, and not broken everything with shooting through obstacles for a week. But unfortunately, we have what we have.
Full return to old aiming will bring all its problems back.
At least camera shaking bug being accepted.
The “problems” we have NOW are MANY magnitudes greater than the “problems” we had before. They took the core mechanic of the game, and they broke its back. They obliterated it. They turned it into something untested, unfinished, and largely unwanted.
I get it. You didn’t like not being able to shoot ships 10km away while both of you are moving full speed in opposite directions. The ship was way out of frame. I’d experienced that too. But it wasn’t worth making Arcade Naval the hot mess it is now. A mobile game version of skilless aimbotting.
We could have done maybe a Picture-in-Picture solution for that when zoomed in. [shrugs] We didn’t have to destroy Naval Arcade to “fix” that pretty niche issue.
And yet… here we are.
With a nice chunk of us beating drums, begging to be heard, creating forum posts and trying to refute the gaslighters.
One of your arguments, Kweedko, is that happy and content people aren’t here making noise.
A LOT of people, myself included, didn’t think we had to come here and make noise. We were content. We didn’t think we had to police the forums to protect our favorite game from being shoved into a running garbage disposal.
Now, you see people who have never posted (me) or haven’t in years, logging back on to be heard.
One of my concerns is that, those of us who can’t stomach the hot mess the game is right now not being able to be heard because you lose the ability to post after a week of inactivity. It’s a convenient way to make voices disappear.
And that means, a lot of these disgruntled voices are so passionate about the game, and seeing it fixed, they’re playing 3 matches a day just so they can be a part of the discussion.
That should say alot.
I bet they won’t change anything, except bugfixing, before the next naval marathon or maybe even next major patch, and if marathon shows good results in new players online and engaging in the mode, they keep it for long .
I predominantly played Navy and for that reason 90+% of my friends list in-game are Navy players.
Since the automatic aiming blunder system the bare few that bother to still log in are there only to wait and hope it changes back/changes to something better and/or:
And they are playing air or ground while waiting - not Navy.

That is me.
I wanted to contain to play Naval, but it is so broken that it is simply not enjoyable.
Used to have a line up for every nation that included ships with float planes and coastal boats to take caps as well as BBs for the circle matches. Now with auto-aim, it is pointless using anything but the heaviest ships and pretty much just boring point and click.
Gaijin must have data showing before and after; I do wonder what it shows for Naval, as the odd time I have tried it recently, seems to be the usual small group of players just are not there anymore.
100%
Every Nation had a low tier coastal, a mix costal and blue water, then I had a end tier blue water line up.
Every Single Nation that had Costal, I’d ground out completely. That’s how much I loved Naval and Coastal.
Now… no point in playing anything but BBs and there ain’t NOTHING exciting about that.
[sigh]
