The gameplay of WT (arcade/realistic) is built around fast paced gameplay.
If the optics weren’t put into the gun barrel, but you’d have to deal with parralax, in a lot of cases you miss where you’re wanted your round to go, resulting in a high chance to get killed in return.
Not particular fun gameplay. In RL it was very difficult to find the target which just shot because limited visibility inside the tank. You’d need your commander constantly on the lookout and exposed.
Of course they could implement more realistic behaviour for SIM mode.
Because in WT tank crews are like robots and traverse and elevation mechanisms are simplified.
In RL a gunner traverses the turret with power traverse, which might need some time to accelerate to maximum traverse speed.
In a Shermant the turret stops the moment you let go of power traverse, in a T-34 the turret keeps moving from inertia because it doesn’t feature a break.
Then you have to switch to manual traverse for precise aiming while in WT there is no difference and aiming is super precise because of that.
Yes that parralax thing you talk about where gun and optics are separated, it should also be implemented into Realistic Mode. Those little things would make the gameplay a milion times better i my opinion.
It would force sweeping BR changes across the board, because vehicles that require pixel-hunting of weakspots would become much more effective, and at the same time, vehicles where the parallax difference is bigger would be at a disadvantage.
Don’t get me wrong, I love playing SB. But that’s precisely why I know that they’re entirely different beasts. When I’m in my Jagdtiger in Ground RB and I see an IS-3, I often one-tap it frontally from muscle memory alone, and he can do the same to me. But, especially if we are really close up (making the relative gap between gunner and barrel more significant) then we can trade shots for a long time doing little damage to one another. Multiply this across the entirety of the tech trees, and you’ll see that this isn’t a trivial change.
one thing that would already help a lot is to limit the third person to the arcade mode, and in RB to use the first person, this would already make the gameplay more difficult
I’m not sure. I was thinking the same at one point but the problem is that it would make aiming very difficult at times, resulting in a lot of cases where you shoot an enemy, miss or non pen and get killed in return.
The current system allows players to make shots where they know, it’s going to take out the enemy.
The 3rd Person Camera and damage indicator give players better perception than they would have in RL. So combining RL elements with some game elements might not be the best solution.
The current system allows players to make shots where they know, it’s going to take out the enemy.
Exactly! Players can land their shots exactly where they want without any difficulties whatsoever. All that armor you have and angling means nothing if enemy with ease can aim at weak spot disabling your tank, you can also quickly aim at barrel if youre in rush, its often seen strategy.
It’s also a god damn game.
If you see a tank you want to point your gun on them and hit where you aim, not getting messed up by parallax.
The game makes you constantly fight at 10-100m.
Not sure about SIM mode, haven’t played that in a while but as far as I remember you usually had larger maps compared to RB.
For RB it just makes fighting at these ranges super annoying and it would mess up the game balance severly.
The combat enviroment is just too unrealistic in WT to combine them with more realistic mechanics.
Just use enable the camera from the gunner sight option if it bothers you so much or play sim… you can also add a custom sight and you will have the correct sight for your gunner.
I would have difficulties at aiming and so do my enemies, it could lead to many interesting situations and also it would be more realistic, the kind of realism that wouldnt hurt the game.
Also it doesnt have to be as realistic as possible, its still more like an arcade game with realistic aspects in it.
Adapting to the parralax isn’t that hard, I’d expect most people to make it within a day.
If both players are dealing with parralax, unless you’re playing something that is egregiously bad like the Stryker, you won’t be at a disadvantage, and beside, people will learn, and should they critically fail to, Gaijin can always adjust the reticles to help.
Also fast pace isn’t really what I would use to describe WT’s gameplay, I would find simplistic much more fitting. The big downside of it being that it doesn’t push you toward improvement, and Gaijin’s answer to it is making the game even more simplistic.
I would very much prefer them actually giving the game any depth, and better helping players understanding it.
I agree, this parralax effect wouldnt be so hard, players would quickly learn it, i know i would.
I also think Realism is what brought players to this game.
I also would tweak how turret is fallowing the mouse, its way too responsive and fast, especially on top tier tanks.
This little change to aiming mechanics would be probably a game changing update, but a good one i think. I believe it would make the game better. Nothing too excessive ofcourse, we dont want to aim at enemy tank like an hour making some kind of calculations and miss every shot. But it would be honestly nice to see more ricochets and near misses, not sure why but it just looks cinematic when it happens …
The biggest difference between GHPC and WT is GHPC was built to be played as multicrew while WT is not. Thats why some systms are automated in WT while in GHPC player have to use them himself.
There is also Tank Crew as part of Il-2 game for WWII vehicles.
Please just play gunner heat pc. You basically just want to play that game but for some reason you are dead set on wanting to turn war thunder into it.
What is next? Lets go to the WoT forum and talk about how great it would be if they added mixed battles, moved away from the hp/spotting system, and became like war thunder.
A lot of people alsl play because it is less p2w than WoT while still being easy enough to play that casual players can do well. If gaijin added the changes that you want, we would lose RB and only have AB and a harder SB.
From my understanding, you want three things. Removal of third person, scopes using the actual gunner sight, and more realistic aim movement. 2 of those three are what seperates rb from sb. Only other difference would be nametags showing up.
If they added those changes, we would have ab, sim with nametags, and sim without nametags.
If you want to suggest the aiming thing, do it for sim, not rb. That would negatively affect way less people.
