RDF-LT and HSTVL

That is cool source you found, unfortunately you missread the penetrator diagram. The dimensions are not in inches but in calibers and here a caliber is 20.6mm.

So total length is only 316.8mm not 375.
Also the total weight is given as 1.38kg not 2.39kg.

I believe a caliber is 1 to 1 to inches here in the US
The 1.38kg is just the penetrator weight, not the projectile weight unless I’m missing something.

Here’s a picture of the supposed ammo measured in inches, the penetrator is there but the fins are sheared off

All the penetrator diagrams are normalized to the diameter of the individual projectile, unfortunately. And the weight is total, the paper this is from is concerned with flight dispersion of the projectile.
We can confirm this by looking at the XM579

The fin is given as 4.31 calibers, and a caliber is normalized to 1.39" for a total of 152mm which is the diameter of the XM150 gun launcher mounted in the MBT70 because the tail fin on the XM579 series acts as skids stabilizing the projectile in the barrel, so they are full bore:

Thanks, that makes sense, strange way they’ve done it. Any idea what the 14.34 measures? I’m redoing the calculations, appreciate it!

2 at 60 Degrees at 10m = 164mm
1.15 at 30 Degrees at 10m = 285mm
1 at 0 Degrees at 10m = 328mm

If we’re converting the specified to normalized, what does the 1.38kg to 157.86 cal equate to?

I feel like I’m missing something else. The 1.94 projectile mass seems off unless the tail fins take up the extra weight

The 14.34 number is the “Transverse mass moment of inertia” divided by the mass times the diameter squared. This is a way of describing “Aerodynamic jump” which is used to describe how a projectile changes trajectory after launch. So basically, it describes how stable the projectile is in flight.

Latest series of bug reports. I was going to make one on the smoke grenades for the RDFLT but there are already bug reports about it

HSTVL/RDFLT can be operated with one crew member

RDFLT missing Hunter Killer/Commander view

I will note that the gun was changed from ADMAG to XM274 due to a bug report

ive not gone over all of the sources for it and I remember it being pretty shaky with plenty of sources stating that it used ADMAG but gaijin will likely deny changing it back without really good and clear sources

wait, im stupid it was the other way around

Got that backwards, the HSTVL/RDF went from the XM274 to the ADMAG gun :)

that other ammo could be huge because of how bad the current one is

It would certainly help!

Gaijin certainly goes not give a F about US stuff.

[DEV] RDF/LT missing smoke grenades, applique armor and AA MG

Plus my previous bug reports from Sept 7th never checked even though there’s 40+ people with the same issue for the one crew member bug.

first one label fixed so idk second one radio silence

It’s not, there is NO commander vision on the RDFLT

oh well

RDFLT 100% uses the same hunter/killer system as HSTVL, there’s no reason why it isn’t in the game

Still nothing from mods, typical

I think Gaijin deliberately didn’t add the smoke launchers and armor on the RDF/LT to avoid a pay to win accusation, keeping the survivability advantage to the free HSTV/L while giving the premium RDF the ammo advantage (but honestly knowing Gaijin they probably just messed up the research on the RDF lol)

With the addition of spall liners, the HSTVL’s ammo is simply not up to the task. So many times the spall liner completely eats the round, which shouldn’t happen since spall liners shouldn’t be additional modules

Yeah the low pen of the shell + Russian insane ERA + spall liners makes side shots on Russian tanks do little damage or not go though at all. I was just pointing out how the HSTV/L gets smoke, highly angled steel ufp and extra side armor that makes it much more survivable than the RDF while the RDF gets more than double the ammo count, even tough theoretically it can also get the extra armor and smoke but that would make it just a straight up better paid version of the HSTV/L

I don’t necessarily think that extra armor is needed for the RDF but smoke launchers are def a necessity. Half my deaths are from spikes or helicopters. It’s really frustrating not being able to defend against both of them.
