I’m merely using date as a guide for advancements in technology in air, ground RB it is wildly different.
oh if u wanna compare compare air its the same, u are making a vehicle being “bad” because its older it does not make sense if their performance compared to other stuff ingame its similar or better. If france has MICA EM from 1996 against stuff from 2016 its cuz gaijin isnt capable of modeling any of the 2016 to the 1996 stuff, like proper dual pulse, working radar, and complex stuff from radars such as quality and ground cluitter resistance, MICA is behind in radar compared to 2016 missiles, but it has good manouverability and a dual pulse motor wich makes it a better base than stuff like AIM 120’s wich at best have only recieved more propellant or new motors for better range
the point I’m making is, comparing missile performance as if everything behaves like it does in real life is fundamentally unfair, because it doesnt. France’s missiles arent fighting fully modeled modern opponents. They’re fighting missiles that are missing the very features that make them “new” and that’s Gaijin’s failure, not the jet being bad or the missile being bad.
If MICA feels like it’s underperforming, it’s because you’re only seeing part of what it can actually do. The full spectrum of its capabilities isn’t in the game, but here’s the thing every other missile is in the same boat. Gaijin hasn’t written the code to make any of them truly realistic, so the missiles MICA fights against are equally hobbled by the same limitations.
you’re not watching france lose a fair fight. You’re watching an incomplete simulation where everyone is handicapped, and then putting the blame on the missile or the jet like if it wasnt in the same condition as everyone else, except this jet isnt as handicapped as other’s.
Gaijin said that they will not add next-gen IR missiles for any one nation, instead it would come to multiple countries at one time.
But even then, they can still do small things here and there for the Rafale. Like the MAWS is not supposed to alert on flares, just something little like that can be beneficial.
Rafale’s DDM-NG MAWS missing spectral discrimination // Gaijin.net // Issues
does not have this until 2025 tested MICA-NG
i tought it had a dual pulse already? i remember seeing an article about it
Unfortunately no, MICA is a 90’s missile and typically countries haven’t done dual pulse motor missiles until the 2010’s and later.
man so much cope out here
Rafale may not be the best of the best anymore but its still incredibly strong at 14.7
MICA is still one of the strongest missile in game for bvr and the strongest at close range
great fm great engines
only thing that limits it a little is the radar angles but its very marginal
even with 8 missiles you can still dominate in air rb you just have to be more conservative
it is by no means ‘‘underperforming’’
if your doing bad in it am sorry but it a bit of a skill issue
I would say the missile count limits it as well.
as i know the LW is just useful to detect Brimstones and AGMs that need a laser to be guided in ur direction, it’s honestly just a random technology which i don’t know why it exists xd
this choice is pretty much discarded the first sec u read it.
hense why i said you need to be more conservative
I feel like people that say rafale is bad only say it cause they don’t know how to notch properly. like literally if they just learn how to notch, 70% of deaths would be avioded and they wouldnt say rafale is bad.
The energy retention on rafale is insane, it can always just notch basically everything at any altitude.
Only other plane that can do this is eurofighter. not the flanker, not anything else.
That’s why its a top plane.
like look at this example of notching, I’d bet most rafale players would somehow die here in early bvr for no reason, I only died later on cause the teams fking suck and it feels like no one on your team knows how to notch (still got 3 kills that match)
example 2
Literally be going at mach 1.7 and notch like youre going 800 kph
Being conservative about it = Giving up early game pressure and potential kills
Gunna drop this WIP guide here too (I really need to finish writing it and im off work for the next 2 days so I may just do that)
But if you are new to top tier and struggling with the shorter range nature of the MICA-EM then learning how to actually read the radar might be a good starting point.
Spoiler
The best way to know whether a shot is worth it or not is reading the radar:

On the B-Scope display (the square radar panel) on the right hand side is a set markers that will tell you all you need to know about whether or not the target is within range and its worth firing
LIne 1 is your minium range (or rMin). if the target marker is below this point, the missile will be unable to hit the target, less of a problem for more modern missiles, but well worth keeping an eye on for older ones
the Box labeled “2” is your LSZ (launch success zone) or NEZ (no escape zone) (varies for different air forces but its the same thing) A missile fired within this box is incredibly difficult to defeat kinematically, the target will be required to actively defeat the missile, even turning cold wont necessarily be enough to defeat a missile fired within the LSZ
Note, the LSZ boxes can be buggy, especially at high alt and can sometimes appear to exceed the rMax, this is impossible, so do be warned, but generally can be trusted
Line 3 is the targets current relative range on the scale, if this line is within the LSZ box or close to it, generally its a good idea to attempt to fire the missile.
Line 4 is your maximum range (or rMax), this is the maximum theoretical range of your missile, but just because the target is within range, it doesnt mean that a shot is worth while firing, only that if the targets fails to do anything, the missile should hit. Its definetly worth paying attention to this for shorter range weapons like IR Missiles.
So to summarise, try firing the missile whilst it is within the LSZ on the B-Scope and you should have greater success hitting the target. This range display is found on most aircraft and most weapons. But LSZ box is not modeled for all weapons.
Also pay attention to what the target is doing. TWS will give you the targets heading, if its traveling towards you, then it will be harder for them to defend than if they were already in a notch and if they are turned like that, then they wont be able to fire straight away and you can safely get closer. Control the fight. If they’ve been flying back and forth, they have probably drained a lot of energy and thus a good target to fire at.
A target at a very high alt will also struggle more to get into a notch than one at sea level and I personally find control surfaces can get a little… squirelly. So a target at very high alts may struggle to defend far more than one low, so these targets are usually ones I tend to single out
As a final piece of advice, try to help the missile as much as possible, so leading your shot helps massively, the game already provides a lot of help with this, aim for the circle and the missile should have the easiest time. You can also raise your nose 15-20° and loft the missile slightly which can help too.

by just reading this first part i just know u don’t have the Rafale.
if u believe a short-range Fox-3 as the MICA-EM can work for “BVR” u’re straight up wrong, u can’t compare this thing to AIM-120D which is actually made for BVR.
kinda true, but it’s still not weird to see people dying around 30/50km due to the missile spam of the furball.
not denying it’s true, but just saying it still happens and it’s not always related to skill issues.
MICA-EMs max range is 50km, wtf 90km are u talking about? and u must have never tested the MICA-EM if u believe it can travel more than 20km as MUCH.
btw BVR is dead, nobody does BVR in WT nowdays, that thing called “Beyond Visual Range” died like 3/4 years ago after Gaijin screwed up missiles and the notching mechanic.
not gonna doubt that at all, it’s the best f*cking delta i have ever played, tho i don’t even have it spaded, it’s still exageratly nimble and able of out-turning basically anything u see.
however, it has exageratly low wing rip speed at sea level, around Mach 1.1 as much, while other aircrafts have a rip speed of Mach 1.2/3 (i believe the Eurofighter can reach 1.5 iirc), so it’s kinda limited if u fly low, and if u fly high, expect to see at least 20 missiles going after u at the start of match while MAW drains 90% of ur countermesures (but just as always, u can disable it so it doesn’t use countermesures).
tbh it deserves MICA-IR, Magic 2 is good but it lacks range, and Gaijin could give the Rafale the radar guided Fox-3 MICA-NG which has more range while keeping the original characteristics of the MICA in general.
however, many other IRCCM missiles should get added too if MICA-IR gets added, such as R-74M for Su-30SM2, AIM-9X for F-15C GE and F/A-18E, and other IRCCM missiles other nations use.
MICA-NG characteristics (yeah, the oficial MBDA’s website)
nah, you can get bvr kills. like look at this, rafale is so damn good at notching and at BVR i can be tabbing in and out and getting bvr kills with ease
literally from 5 minutes ago as well btw
if you don’t think rafale is still a top 5 bvr plane idk what to say, it is easy
also got 6 kills this match from BVR later on
20km is not BVR, at least for me.
BVR is around 35km or more, like back in time when missiles were actually hard to dodge and u were already dead if a Flanker locked an R-27ER on u at 75km.
btw u’re not the only one tabbing out in mid-match to talk and come back to articulate someone’s a$$ in a way science didn’t discover yet, i’m farming some free kills in the Tiger II enjoying that beautiful 8.8cm.
did you not see the su-30 firing a r27er that i notched in that clip. its not hard to notch in the rafale.
it’s still easily top 5 plane with mica being a good bvr missile only due to how good the rafale is at high altitude

u didn’t read this part.
MICA performs decently around 20km, it’s at longer ranges where it sucks and that are the kind of ranges i’m referring to.
when i play Su-30SM2 i usually go high and launch 6/8 R-77-1s over multipathing targets at 50/45km, sometimes i get kills, but it’s rare to see people multipathing in toptier, they’re usually the poor stock grinding children that don’t have chaff.
