Is there any way to enable the display of radar tracks and IFF marks so that they are constant? As it stands, when looking forward (at least in the Eurofighters), the HMS is inactive, and as such you need to look away from the HUD and instruments for IFF and radar tracks to display.
On a real Typhoon, the pilots have a transparent combiner HUD, transparent visor display, and obviously binocular vision and depth perception. If this is an intention choice by Gaijin, I can sort of understand their reasoning, as human vision prioritizes certain things, and if implemented, could probably look cluttered or bad. However, the point remains that from what I could find, all western HMD system documentations seems to imply that the HMD doesn’t only turn on when the pilot looks off-bore.
NASA (JHMCS) - “The HMD was developed to allow the pilot to retain aircraft and weapon information and to view sensor images while looking off boresight” (page 11) Note the usage of retain, implying that the aforementioned sensor data is also available when looking down boresight.
Eurofighter (Striker II) - “When you pull the visor down you see the outside world but there’s a green crosshair too, floating in the near distance along with a long horizon line through the middle. You can see a basic symbol set giving you all the basic information you need for flying the aircraft — speed, altitude and so on — along with various symbols; diamonds, squares (friendlies) and circles (unknown), which all represent aircraft tracks, and there’s also a triangle which represents a ground track.” Explicitly stated that among instrument data, aircraft track data such as IFF friendlies and radar tracks are immediately available when the visor is pulled down.
To conclude, does anyone know if there is a way to toggle this somehow in the game’s settings? Or is this better suited as a bug report. There are more supporting sources I have found, but only able to post 2 links.
