Hej,
could someone explain to me how is possible that my radar lock missiles from opponent’s planes and it cannot lock opponent airplane.
Funny thing is that rocket is about 2 square meters of plate and airplane is more than 20 square meters.
Where is the logical explanation for that?
2nd question is also about logic. for example, you are able to see drone from 5 km distances, but you are not able to see the airplane or helicopter which is just few meters from that same drone.
Hold up your hand with a stretched arm in front of you, now look at a car 2km away on the highway, you can cover the car with your hand and the car looks to be 1/10 the size of your hand. Same with missiles/planes and radar, two object of different size can give the same signal strength back if they are att different distances.
(image for illustrative purposes it describes a similar thing and does a good job at explaining it visually)
Radar cross section and rotors/propellers.
An object doesn’t always show up on radar as the size it actually physically is due to how some of the angles deflect the radar beams away from the source instead of back at it.
(Electronic Warfare and Radar Systems Engineering Handbook - Radar Cross Section (RCS) - RF Cafe)
Rotors and propellers have a VERY distinct radar return due to how they move and can be more easily filtered out depending on how modern the radar and post processing is.
All that being said, in-game; what plane are you using, what radar mode and how are you selecting targets?
True if both, missile and plane, fly headon with you. But same thing happens if enemy flies with angle to you and shooting missile. The funny thing is, you can lock onto the missile without a signal on your radar hud.
Same problem with IR missiles. Most rear aspect missiles need an angle beneath 90°. But you can lock onto a missile launched headon to you. Even a AIM9B is capable of.
last question and compare of drone and airplane…
I was talk about visual problem during squadrons battles
Over map at the distance of 5km I can see small object flying (DRONE) and at the same time there is opponent airplane, which is not visible, my team on the ground see that airplane over them but I cannot see it, they also see the drone. drone and airplane are ± 500m one from each other’s and I am, i will repeat 5km from them
These weird situation happen very often, and nobody knows why because nobody knows how the game internally calculates these things. In AirRB it happens sometimes, you see a twin engine airspawn fighter before you can see a big bomber nearby although the twin engine is behind the bomber.
Or an enemy pops up 20km away as a dot and disappears till it’s in marker range.
You also can ask why an enemy with marker spotted by friendly always shows a dot even it’s too far away to see it.
