R2Y2, really worth 8.0?

What do you mean? It can 1v1 most things and what it can’t you can outrun. The only weakness is if someone keeps BnZing you without pushing their luck, but will take a long time before they can bleed your speed.

A sabre or mig15 thinks they can dogfight you and get absolutely rinsed. I got 5 kills in a 8.7 uptier just now.

Yeah nah nobody does that, they just bleed my speed constantly instead of dogfight (ive had like 2 games in it(

The average Air RB pilot skill has absolutely cratered, it’s just a grind mode for ppl to unlock bombs and/or bombers by headon, prop hang or max elevator to then drop a few thousand pounds of skill onto tank players

any Sabre or MiG-15 that realises they’re playing in a 3D space and considers vertical energy play: there is nothing an R2Y can do beyond pray he screws up spectacularly or a friendly plane bails you out.

Maybe you are turning/defending away too aggressively than needed? Turn/roll just enough to be away from their guns but not too much, so they think they can still dogfight you. Its always mind tricks

Yeahhh but if it keeps up long enough

Done that plenty in the F2H, doesn’t make it competitive against 8.0s lol

Until you realize the Mig-15 can’t get slow enough to fight the R2Y2, and the Sabre needs a specific maneuver.

It’s like a P47 vs an A6M5 Ko. The Zero will win every time, despite the P47 being superior in climb rate, speed, and energy fighting.

In an average battle, sure… But only because of the lower skill floor of “just turn lol”.
Assuming equally skilled pilots the P-47 completely dictates the fight, while the Zero can really only evade, but not fight back.

R2Y2 vs MiG-15 or F-86 is similar, except here even baiting those planes into a turn fight is a death sentence due to their sustaibed performance
It really feels like a match up that should be a full uptier, which is why people call for R2Y2 at 7.3, or MiG-15/F-86 to 9.0 (Which used to be their BRs when they were top tier too)

It’s a perfect example of years of top tier compression at play, which gets progressively over the years. New top tier gets added, is too strong, but instead of adding new BRs they push the old (now underperforming) top tiers down. What this creates is high BRs that are significantly more compressed than earier BRs, where something like an additional machine gun or 5 more horsepower could sometimed mean a BR increase.
Compare the Ki-49 series (3.0-3.7) for example with their respective performance differences between models to the difference between a 13.7 Thai F-16A OCU or J-11A and a 14.0 Eurofighter or Su-30SM.

As long as [MiG-15 and F-86A-5 being 8.0] became new normal of Early jet era since last year

it seems R2Y2, Vampire aren’t 8.0 Material.
it isn’t R2Y2 or Vampire’s fault but Rather lame Gaijin’s problem which decided mindless buffing Sabre and MiG-15.

If Gaijin is not going to fix one of worst decision which made on 7.0-9.0
Even though we all know sending Sabre/MiG back higher with decompressing is correct anwser.
Sadly, There is no other option than sending both Vampire and Keiun down.

Turnfighters in this game usually gets overrated drastically thanks to bullshit stat-only-based balancing.
While American jets like F2H or F-86 gets underrated shamelessly.

Which the only way this happens is if ALL but 2 - 5 aircraft in the 7.0 - 8.0 range move down with R2Y2s by the same amount, because as proven previously, the vast majority of aircraft R2Y2 is equal to are already 8.0 themselves: Meteor, MD452, etc
All 7.7s but maybe 1 or 2 are inferior to R2Y2, Meteor, MD452, etc.

Oh, BTW I nicknamed the A6M5 Ko the Thunderbolt hunter in 2019 due to how easy it was to destroy them, even when they played perfectly.

I’d say from my experience it was easier to merge against Sabres than Mig-15s using the R2Y2 due to the fact Sabres could pull harder than the Migs and slow down more.

Back when Japan could only face under-BR’d American aircraft, it made sense why R2Y2 was 7.0, cause it was facing under-BR’d American aircraft which themselves were around 7.0.
But once the matchmaker stopped being Japan vs USA, of course both tech trees’ aircraft started increasing.

I got my first ever post-1km shots in the same exact match using the R2Y2, one against a Tu-4 from below, another vs some fighter trying to flee.
It would move to 7.3 after that, bomb was still forced-attached as it was still a bomber.

I’d play it more, including in simulator, I was a terrible pilot too at the time. My KD would be lucky to get 0.75 in any fighter at the time. This one was around to over 1:1.

The next BR change? It got changed to fighter, the bomb was removed as a mandatory attachment [I was dropping it on spawn every match anyway as were most R2Y2 players at the time], and it was moved to 7.7 at that time or in the change after.
I played it some more and I then stopped playing it.
In the mean time it’d move to 8.0 and I was learning how to be a better pilot.

A few years later 2025 comes around and I play the V3 to spade it for Thai vehicles. Not only do I do well in it, I discover it’s like an Su-25 for its BR. Not the greatest performance, but good enough to hold its own.

R2Y2 is worth 8.0. Some 8.0s should be 8.3, and some 8.3s 8.7 [Looks at A-4H], and so on.
And R2Y2, Meteor, MD452, etc are the definition of what an 8.0 aircraft should be IMO.

Yeah, like I said I’d rather see general decompression happen throughout, adding the multiple full BR steps that we are missing from all the times top tier was expanded without BR increases. After that there can be fine adjustments.

For example right now T-2 is 9.7, lower than it was when it was added as a notoriously opressive aircraft, but because of the immense BR compression it is still performing worse than it did then despite the lower BR. That’s how compressed the game is now.

They went to 8.0 and lost their air spawn because how strong the cannons were when they had an insane muzzle velocity of 920m/s.

Now that the Type 5s velocity was reduced to 770m/s they lost one of the main reasons they went to 8.0.

While the firepower is good they obviously lack the performance to compete.

Though the skill sealing is probably still in their favor.

The f2h doesn’t have the turn performance of the r2y2, its just mediocre at everything while the r2y2 does a few things well

I like to use the F-5s to showcase compression in their BR range. Below is what BRs they all should be based on the starting BR of the F-5A/F-5C at 10.7.

F-5A/C - 10.7
ROC F-5A - 11.0
F-5E/Norwegian F-5A - 11.3
F-5E FCU/F-5T - 12.0

Yet we have all of those between 10.7 and 11.3.

Alternatively look at the Shermans BR placement. You get minor upgrades ever 0.3 BRs, compared to top tier where a Phantom with 4 Aim-120s/2 9L/Is is only 1.0 (arguably 0.7) worse than the Eurofighter which is better in every single possible way.

But better acceleration and top speed

I know, but against a sabre or mig15, you have nothing over them, except better roll rate against the mig15.
While the r2y2 has considerable turn performance over those, so you can have a counterplay at least.

Compared to the r2y2 v3 (the best one), the sea meteor at 7.3 (not the turning monster early meteor mk3) or the G41F at 7.7 have almost the same turn performance and have better acceleration and can actually reach their top speeds, but they have a FM which is great on paper but a bit awkward if you need to roll or use your rudder. And the guns on the r2y2 are simply superior, even at 720m/s they keep more speed at range and can hit some long shots, and they hit like a truck.

So I think the correct BR for all of the r2y2 would be 7.7

Not only the Turnfighters, but also those heavy-fire power fighters, I must say comparing to other jets like F80c or F84G, 4*30MM is still appealing, especially you got 600 rounds, the other cases is ME262a1u1, which got mk103, but worse FM, still has higher BR.

But it is wired that Gaijin has kept obvious mind that R2Y2 in AB model has 7.3 BR, even they believe the firepower is more important in the AB model (look at those sad FW190)

Of course, when you need to face the MIG15 or F86, it is like a suiside, except for hand on( attention that F86A was not so good due to the engine, which means your acceleration might be better when you in low speed), R2Y2 have more chance to gamble the F86 or MIG15 made any mistake or losing their patience and then directly towards to you, but R2Y2 is too slow and too easy to lose speed, it is still hard to use them to against F84G, F80c or any kinds of meteors above 7.3.

People are so enamored with its firepower and turn that it acts like a pilot quality testing machine, easily eliminating any unqualified pilots

This is not really relevant because the sabre only suffers low acceleration on takeoff or if you stall, meaning that after getting some speed, you will keep it most of the time.

You can literally do a 180 pulling like 10-11G without bleeding almost any speed in the r2y2, at around 600kph its the fastest turning jet below 8.7, the best turning jet of the entire game, the 7.3 meteor mk3 starts compressing at that speed and above.
