The funniest part is they just announced the upcoming BR changes and after so many people suffered in the R2Y2s for months in order to get them before they get removed, Gaijin still ignores their coveted stats and change nothing. after playing for what is now 10 years, nobody can convince me this “game” is about fun and not just pure torture of the playerbase.
ikr lmao, i just give it the same playstile i do with the Ki-200, climb high and dive to get kills, doing normal right now, but it still sucks being slow (i love ground pounding on this thing whe no enemy is arround)
Does the flight performance of the V1, V2 and V3 actually change?
On the stat card they all have nearly the same same speed, which doesn’t seem to make sense, since the V2 and V3 would be more aerodynamic with the engines moved to the fuselage instead of wing housings.
Yes.
Direct comparison at 0:37.
Basically, V1 has better low end acceleration but worse top speed (and therefore worse high end acceleration), V3 has better high end acceleration due to higher top speed, and V2 is just objectively worse than the V3 so there’s no reason to play it.
Seems like the V2 is basically even worse than the V1.
Seems a bit odd.
Honestly 7.7 would be better balanced so a full uptier would see mig 15 and full down tiers would still slap
Nope, not 8.0 material at all and never been even before the gun nerf. Its not fun at all getting rocketed from the sky by quided missiles in slow late ww2 jet which belongs to other late ww2 jets. And you cant do anything about those missiles anyway. No skill issue included I just cant do anything about people with guided missiles or people that go 400 km/h more. R2Y2s relies on people being stupid or picking people that dont pay attention to you to get any kills. Like 3 kill game in it is really quite lucky for it.
So yea 7.3 for the 3 of them is fair. Or make it like in sims each have own br. But imo its not deserved and all should be 7.3
Differences between them are way too minimal to justify an entire BR step between each. Maybe if each step was just .1 BR…
Honestly, I’m gonna give these a try properly to figure out what the matter is here. On the surface, they don’t seem that good, but I really haven’t played it a lot. I’ve followed the discussion in this thread a lot, and it seems people have very different ideas regarding this plane.
I just want to ask, @AlvisWisla, do you think the issue is compression rather than the plane itself? Your opinion seem to be that the plane shouldn’t move down. Me, with a cursory glance, think it could go down to 7.7 but that sort of BR decrease really wouldn’t change that much… (6.7 matchmaker is practically non-existent, so is 9.0 which is the highest it would face at 8.0)
It feels that there is a very big issue of compression at this BR. I’ve personally played the Barougan and that thing was a pain. F-84G isn’t really that fun either. It feels that there is a lot of planes in this bracket with really different capabilities crammed together into that BR range. Especially with something like the Sabre and MiG-15 being at this BR now as well.
I dunno. I’ll give it a proper try, I’ll play the V3 because I’ve heard it’s the best.
Yes. I think I addressed that in my first post.
I did.
Decompressing 8.0, and obviously 9.3 and to an extent 10.0 would fix this issue entirely.
I very much believe that R2Y2 is the definition of what an 8.0 should be.
262 C is what a 7.7 should be.
Mig-9L is what a 7.3 should be.
Kikka is what a 7.0 should be.
If the 8.0s are objectively superior to R2Y2 they should be moved up.
still you can move it down abit, you only survive in a r2y2 bc you are so slow and agile…
Well, yeah. Just rewatched Defyn’s video on it (one from 4 years ago) and it honestly just seems like the plane is I-225 of 8.0? Being a plane you just go in and shoot people with. That’s just my observation though, based on the video.
What turns with an average climb rate for its BR? Yak-9? Like the Yak-9 of its BR.
There are still things that out-climb and maneuver worse, and there are things that climb worse and maneuver better.
And obviously there are things that are under-BR’d that do both better.
just a plane with good lowspeed acceleration and good turn radius… nothing special about this plane…
So clearly its much easyer to move every other 8.0 or 8.3 up than to move 3 overtiered japanese planes down (that are also deleted from research)
Yeah trust gaijin gonna do that.
- spoiler alert - no. They wont.
lmao
4 years ago the guns were accurate and oneshoted also I think it was still 7.3 back then
I have begun my experiments. I now have the R2Y2 V3 spaded, and I am recording/logging my games down on an excel sheet. I will keep you all updated once I have gathered a reasonable amount of data. My experience so far is OK. These things are a pain stock though.
KDR is around 3.75, which really doesn’t represent the actual value which is why I have kills per match instead in the summary.
The play style I’ve employed is a semi-passive play style where I avoid fur-balls, this works well in down-tiers, but in up-tiers it feels I should probably be more aggressive. But at the same time, I feel it wont work because how much faster planes can be at 9.0 or 8.7 compared to the R2. Getting stuck in prolonged fights in that sort of scenario gets you killed, and that not really a trait exclusive to this plane. But there are planes like the MiG-15 and La-15 that can basically keep turning forever even in fur-balls.
Dogfight wise, I go for the one-circle and this thing actually does pretty well in that scenario. It can beat a lot of planes in that way. Horizontal maneuvers mostly, unless I know I have a very severe energy advantage in which case I would push the vertical to get on their six.
The guns are fine, I’m still getting used to the ballistics but the amount of ammo + tracer belts makes them pretty easy to use.
I would definitely say the plane isn’t super bad. My experience with this is definitely a lot better than that of the Barougan for example. Idk, I need to play it more but I’m definitely enjoying it now that it’s spaded. Should it be lower? Maybe. I still do think 7.7 would be fine for it, maybe 7.3 is pushing it because it does mog those planes quite easily in the one circle. Not to mention 7.0 stuff…
I can definitely now somewhat understand what @AlvisWisla talks about/means regarding this plane. The one circle performance is very much valid, and while you definitely can’t keep it up forever it is enough, I think?
That’s my take away from 10 matches in this thing. I honestly recommend the people who have participated in this thread to revisit the plane and actually give it a fair try. If I can do this well, I’m sure most people can do as well. I am no e-sports player.
What I would do is i’d climb sem-close to my team furball, and level off around 4000 - 5000 meters depending on the map.
I’d engage what came close, or what my friendly furball went after, after the battlefield would get cleared I’d target ground units until victory.
There were of course battles where the friendly furball got struck, I got ambushed, or something else occurred.
Glad you found something that works for you.
