R27et underpowered?

Annoying too lol

Yeah, R-27ET has some funky stuff going on. From what i’ve read, it had two seekers. The initial long-range lock was acquired by the cryogenically cooled seeker, but it had a limited time before it ran out of coolant and shut down. The second, uncooled seeker would then have hopefully picked up on the lock and continued onward hitting the target.

It had no proper LOAL capability because datalink was only present on the R-27R/ER (It was closely intertwined with the semi-active radar homing hardware) But, this funky dual-seeker stuff and whatever IRCCM it had is nowhere near modeled in the game, especially not with a limited coolant supply as well.

That is intersting, but does sound like something beyond their current engine

Considering how they’ve coded IRCCM, its probably not beyond the engine, just a lot of development time for one single missile, especially while they’re also working on ARH missiles rn. Also as far as I know we only have one missile dev and that’s K_Stepanovich so yeah its probably low priority since they already have R27ER as well

Yeah, and R-73s are the intended IR missile to be used. Even fully implemented R-27ETs I dont think would be this super weapon in RB. Potentially potent in SB with no markers, but in RB I imagine them to be akin to IR Aim-54s. Good at alt, but meh at low alt.

I think they’ll be improved over time, but yeah, ARH needs to be the prio. Some nations are royally screwed at the moment without them

They’re still pretty useful (R27T not ET), I love abusing them top-down on my Yak after I out-skill everyone with my mach jesus ERs, definitely better than phoenixes, but with RB in the state that it’s in they’re probably just going to get lost in the chaos. SIM they’d be pretty good since the RWR rework makes dodging SARH way easier you just get a TWS or IRST track and fling it off at an odd angle and they’ll have no idea its coming and probably won’t even see the smoke.

Also I don’t think CMs would be effective at range against them since even 1 degree at 50km is a very wide view. The flares would burn out before the target plane got out of the seeker FOV and it would just re-acquire the lock.

Depends on what the target does I suppose. If they drop flares and turn away, and the R-27ET changes target to go for the flares. Yeah, the Flares would probably burn out long before it got close, but no guarantee it would re-acquire the target if it had shifted suffecient and switch to being more side on. Also no guarantee it would acquire the same target.

To be honest, my biggest concern with these having that kind of range in any gamemode, is the TKs. Even a relatively short range missile can be problematic sometimes when a teammate decides to dive in the way. Imagine increasing the gap from 5km to 50km.

Yeah friendly fire is going to be something, though TWS with IFF should mostly alleviate that issue while still not notifying the target of a lock. From there it’s just hoping nobody flies across the seeker’s line of sight.

It’s that last bit that has me most worried. Especially being used in a Brawl and not as a long range standoff

and? just use the ER then

Et can act as a fox 3 basically er limits you

Well then that’s the reason its underpowered no other nation has long range ir missiles or fox 3s excluding phoenix which er is already better than.

For the record the MICA-IR seeker doesn’t use it’s seeker a long range, it relies on datalink with the plane (IRST or radar), INS and LOAL to be used at 60 km of range for example on the mirage 2000D RMV it has a more limited range. I don’t know if the 27 ET use the same kind of hybrid guidance. The seeker on it is way bigger maybe it doesn’t need to rely on the airplane for the last guidance direction.

By the way if you have solid proof that mig or missile are underperforming do not hesitate to do bug report. It’s too easy and useless to come here and argue about BS. Maybe Russia and USA main are not used to it because the technologies of both are more documented but if you go on minor tech trees player have been bug reporting for so long that it’s quite disturbing to see so much player arguing here instead of filling report to change things.

What kind of arrogant reply is this?

Everyone arguin over something wether its about seeker performance or general missile performance, but i dont see you lecture them.

This kind of toxic behaviour will get you nowhere.

if you think the ER limits your capability in the mig 29s or 141, than you arent that good at the game

He’s Logic doesnt wrong tho.

İf 27ET can get its true potential it means you dont have to deal with keeping constant radar lock on your enemy while using 27ER, you can just simply fire ET from long distances and forget it while dealing with other threats.

I said et buddy also no doffrence between aim7m and r27er jsut go low they cant hit you so dont lecture me

I see that’s they’re is a lot of confusion on missile capabilities in this thread so i’m going to link this thread about different IR missile and their capabilities.

There is information on missile that are not yet added but could be added in the futur of war thunder?
So if you want to make comparaison of missile capabilities it’s quite good.

I’ll have to see a source on that since i never saw a FPA seeker on any russian missile. Even the most modern one, the R-74M2 (the one for the SU(57) doesn’t have a FPA seeker.

Well its seeker is actually the TGS 36T with 16-18km range in the foward hemisphere againt afterburning target and 60-70km range rear hemisphere against after burning target.

So it SHOULD be better than it is rn but every IR seeker in game is heavely underperforming in range of lock-on.

The russian never addopted in wide service the upgraded OS-27T seeker which should have 30km range in the foward hemisphere againt afterburning target and 100km range rear hemisphere against after burning target.

Yea every ir missile suffering from the same issue unfortunately.

Well, i don’t really have a firm source given thats just what i gathered from the mess that is info on these weapons online. If they don’t then that doesn’t bode well for future soviet tech tree IR missiles
