I played the 29A on release and it was indeed the best FM out there. For reference I had the f16 MLU as well at the time

F-16 still could beat it below 950/1000KMH, in the current time mig-29/su-27 flight model is inferior to F-16 at all speeds, all altitudes, while having worse missiles,worse energy retention, worse radar (in the case of SU-27) as well. The MIG-29SMT FM is even more horrible than the SU-27, which is an achievement

This game was never once about matching vehicles up by year of introduction. It was always supposed to be about matching opponents up against peers of similar capabilities. It’s the reason why basic M4 shermans don’t have the same BR as king tigers.

I saw the video when it was released, just watched it again. The title doesn’t match the status quo of his footage or of that time as a whole. The old elevator bug it had above 3km appeared a lot, took a while to get fixed, radar had a hard time locking/dropped lock fast (especially with manual control) and HMS ACM was added way later. Generally you will notice how he lacks instantaneous turn/AoA and maintains speed way better than the mig29 should at mach ~0.8. Also the missile spooling bug, but I think that was universal.
Defyn air rb footage is cherry picked and he has openly stated this, it doesn’t paint a very realistic picture of the situation. He also took part in the R73 fiasco but that’s not what I want to get into.

you mean the perfectly reasonable situation where the USSR was denied a missile that would have utterly crushed every other plane in the game and you’re still upset about it because you didn’t get your easy stomping
and you still would have been crying about the 9M all the same in the end
R73 is in the game now, where is the curb stomping? They would’ve given the 9M to nato planes either way together judging some GMs posts. So wouldn’t that be in your favour lmao

I think it was the February update that made the MiG-29’s FM much much better than the F-16’s FM. On top of that the MiG-29 had the ER which was kind of insane. Ngl if they added an R-73A (no IRCCM) it would’ve been balanced but at the time Gaijin was still trying to work out the R-73 FM.

USSR mains thought they were going to be the only ones getting an IRCCM missile, which is why the complaining still persists to this day

Most didn’t even know it had IRCCM, seeker shrinking wasn’t considered. And still is easy to flare. I fail to see how you think it would curb stomp, where now its easy to flare and spins out of control often (also wobbles its speed away a lot). R60M had no place in top tier

F-16 still had the 9L which was kind of insane compared to R-60M, can get 2.5X range kills compared to GARBAGE-60M, and had flare resistance better than what R-73 does today from rear aspect.

9L cannot have better flare resistance than R-73 because of bigger FOV.

No, before the changes it had insane flare resistance. The fov is useless garbage anyways. Ive had gripens and F-16s flare it at 300 meters
R-73 IRCCM mostly works against very hot targets

What…? The R-73 has 0.75deg FoV. Much better than the 9L’s 3.6deg FoV.
