R-73 seeker automatically slaves to a distant radar contact

Hi everyone,

I have a problem with the Su-33 and its IR missiles, especially the R-73 .

For example, imagine there is an enemy aircraft directly in front of me at around 5 km. However, my radar is in search mode and detects another enemy aircraft 40 km away.

I am NOT locking the radar onto the 40 km target . It is only a normal contact in the radar search display.

When I select the R-73 and activate the missile seeker, the R-73 seeker automatically moves/slaves to the radar contact at 40 km , instead of searching in front of my aircraft where the closer enemy is.

So basically:

  • Enemy A: directly in front of me, 5 km away → the target I want to hit with R-73
  • Enemy B: 40 km away → only detected by my radar, NOT locked
  • I activate the R-73 seeker
  • The seeker automatically points toward Enemy B

Is there a way to disable radar-to-IR seeker slaving , or make the R-73 seeker completely independent from radar contacts?

I don’t want the R-73 seeker to automatically select the radar search contact. I want to manually point the seeker at the enemy in front of me.

Is there a setting or keybind that can fix this?

Thanks in advance!

Are you sure the radar is not in TWS mode?

I don’t think so, switch to ACM or HMS in CQB, or turn your radar off.

Neither.

Just turn off radar or don’t select a radar contact if you want to use IR missile close range
