I started playing Air SB with a Quest 3 not so long ago and I am looking for some help on the below topics from experienced VR users:
1- What zoom level do usually use in the cockpit? Like are you zoomed out all the way, or a point on the middle? I’m usually all the way zoomed out because of question #2.
2- If I press the ALT key when I’m zoomed in even a little bit (I use the throttle lever in my flight joystick to adjust zoom levels), my camera zooms out while I hold the key. I noticed the UI getting a bit smaller when I do this, like the chat box gets a bit smaller if I make it show up when pressing ALT, but it’s normal if I use enter as if I were to send a message. I use ALT for all my key combinations like switching radar modes, etc. And just in case, if I zoom out all the way, pressing ALT does not give me an issue, probably because it can’t zoom out any further, also, this only happens when in VR mode. Is this happening to anyone or does anyone know why this would happen?
I see no reason to use an axis for zoom, it’s better to snap in 100% with a key and back out.
Note that if you set the view in Common controls it will be ‘sticky’ so you need to press it twice. I find this best for ATGM view.
Setting it in the vehicle options means you hold to zoom and release to zoom out… which is much better for quick checking a dot.
more tips :
google VRNeckSafer and use that, it’s great.
Voice Attack is a god send since it’s hard to see your keyboard.
Set a custom resolution with Nvidia control panel ( I use 1080 x 1080) and use that in WT. It means your HUD/Map are MUCH easier to see instead of being on the side of your face and you have to turn to see them.
Yeah makes sense, that is how it was mapped by default and it only makes me accidentally change the zoom with the palm of my hand when pulling up lol. On that note, is zooming in with VR even needed or helpful? When zooming it, it looks as if I got really close to a monitor and everything is a bit weird because of it, makes me a bit dizzy and I can’t see correctly.
What do you mean with setting the view in Common and it being ‘sticky’? I don’t think I understand unfortunately.
I will search these two programs, thanks!
Regarding the resolution, I’ve seen people recommned this but I didn’t try it, I will try it today as it’s really hard to look at radar and RWR during WVR combat, thanks again!
Yeah, the zoom is badly coded… you should get used to it… try not to move your head around when you’re using it.
If you dont zoom you’ll never work out targets to shoot, so get use to it.
‘sticky’ is just that… 1 click and you zoom in, second click and you zoom out.
Resolution doesn’t change what you can see in VR, just the WT interface. I have a super wide screen monitor and if I leave it at default I can’t see my map or RWR without looking all the time. Try it. Set the horizontal res to your vertical to get a square.
Mostly zoomed out fully, which gives a really nice 1:1 representation of the real cockpit. And I zoom in fully (not with axis!) e.g. to try to visually ID an aircraft or object.
As to 1:1 representation of the cockpit, one may often think that it’s not correct. I for example often found the Mirage/Milan’s cockpit to appear smaller than what I’d expect - but then when I sat in the real one I could confirm that the size is spot on!
The last bit is what I was wandering, since zooming out all the way on some aircraft feels right, while others like the F2A feels I’m too far away, although I hoped that this is how it is IRL.
I have another question; with some radars in Air RB, I can see what plane I am locking or soft locking onto, however, I don’t get that information in SB. Is there a way to get this feature working, say, on the F2A? I looked at the cockpit for this information but I cannot find anything that indicates what am I looking at.
That’s not where the question is coming from. I want to know if I’m looking at a missile or an enemy plane, this is different from locking to an enemy in AB and RB, it seemed to be a radar feature but I guess it’s not like that in SB, thanks!
I guess you are talking about NCTR that says the aircraft type you are locking, they need to add it on radar mfd or hud depending on the aircraft but I think only Su-30SM2 has it modelled in game
