Question: Does the A-5C Belong at BR 10.7 in 2025?

you can turn without losing speed in any plane by not monkey pulling

Then it takes forever and you are even more likely to get caught.

This game is not some constant quick time event where you are always seconds from being ran down.

It is during the part of the match where base bombers arrive to their targets since that’s right about when the enemy team crosses those same targets

Participating in the rat race at the start is a choice

There are 4 bases, your most efficient loadout is enough for two, and there are 16 players on each side.

Your just screwing yourself over if you don’t go for a base

I’d say it’s fine even as a fighter, the biggest problems in that role is it’s high speed control and mid 23mm guns. With throttle management or even just spiral climbing it can energy trap things at will and I’ve even dumpstered J-7Ds and F-5s who think they can just stand on the elevator.

It’s not a bad plane, it’s also not noob friendly as overspeeding will kill you in most fights as you will end up flying in front of enemies if you aren’t watching your speed. Low countermeasure count also kinda hurts with how it wants to be played, it’s still very dangerous and I don’t think it should be moved down at all.

Difference here is you can monkey pull and barely lose speed

if you mean the A-5, its because it barely turns at speed to begin with

Have you flown the F-111A, and have you flown the Q-5/A-5?

And it never loses speed, unlike the F-111s which turn into a flying air brake if you pull slightly with your wings swept back.

Compression thread again.

By looking down yes, by looking up no, by looking at 10.7 no

Should’ve been down to 10.3 with the 10.7-3 recompression

1- I think this is a duplicate post.
I think I replied to a similar topic yesterday, so I will link it first.

I think the topic which you wrote will be spammed every time a CN discount comes up.
Every year.
Until Gaijin solves this.

If we compare only J-7D and A-5C…
You are right. A-5C can’t be the same 10.7BR with J-7D

2- If J-7D is stuck at 10.7 forevermore along with these damn F-5C variants.
Maybe we can try 10.3 for A-5C.
But 9.7~10.0 sounds wild.

3- But I prefer A-5C stays 10.7 while sending
-J-7D to 11.0
-F-5C to 11.0 (while giving an ahistorical AIM-9P to cease disturbances)
-Further decompression on 11.7 to 14.3 will be juicy.

4- Maybe we can try combination of 2 & 3 if Gaijin listens us.

Definitely shouldn’t be 10.0 with flares and magic’s with quasi-mig19 flight performance, but 10.3 would be a really good fit looking at the planes there.

I picked up the A-5C in the ongoing sale and all I can say is
It’s awful.
Not a plane issue in itself, at its own tier it is more than capable, and in a downtier it’s very strong.
However the issue arises when you get an uptier. You can’t serve as a strike fighter as being subsonic/barely supersonic (depending on altitude) means that you don’t get to the bases before the MiG-23s, F5Es, Tornado ETC.
Your turnrate is also absolutely abysmal, but at least you have decent energy retention.
I think it would be a very strong 10.3 should it move down, but I’d rather have other planes around it move up in BR.

It compresses a lot at high speed since it’s essentially a fatter Mig-19, but the turn rate is very good. The only jet at 10.0-11.7 that will beat it in a dogfight is the J7E and maybe the alpha jet TH almost forgot about it.

lowering it to 10.3 would be fine, but it could also stay at 10.7 if we moved the J7D up at least

Q-5L can take missiles, its just not added in game for “insert gaijin reason” and so the tech tree has 3 Q5s all doing the same thing with no variation.

You know what might turn out nicely?
If someone managed to prove the A-5C can take weaker missiles , like 9E.
Personally i would trade Magic-1’s and 9P’s for a more favourable BR.

The sustained rate is good, because it still has a bit of that MiG-19 DNA and that ridiculous energy retention.
pretty much every other flight model characteristic is mediocre (acceleration) or below average- Minimum radius (matters more in ARB that sustained in my opinion), top speed, roll rate etc.
the F-5s should quite easily beat a A-5C in a dogfight, as should pretty much any fighter platform around that battle rating.
Worst comes to worst, they can always just extend.

and the F-5s are overperforming by quite a bit

Far better than mirage IIIs which is a dorito brick

Acceleration is above average, and every jet that can outaccelerate it needs to keep a straight line, any turn will bleed their speed, unlike the A5C.

Furthermore, sustained turn/energy retention is a lot more important than minimum radius, especially when there are multiple enemies around

Are you dreaming?

I’ve had a 9 kill game in the A5C where I remember dogfighting 3 F-5s at the same time. It’s so easy, make them engage in a dogfight, they bleed all their speed while you outrate them at 600-700kph. If they try to extend they won’t be able because they are now quite slow since they committed for a bit and the A5C has way better acceleration to catch them again.

What the F-5s excell in is at third partying others that are slow while dogfighting because it can zoom in and out of furballs at mach with a very responsive nose to aim at deflection shoots.
