Pz.Kpf.Wg. M4A4 748 (a) Firefly

Good job keeping not getting into a huge argument with this guy, I’ve seen you in other posts and you seem to know what you’re talking about. Back on topic, captured vehicles are an interesting type in WT as some would be heavily modified, the German kv-1 is an example, I feel that vehicles like that would be cooler then another Sherman but that’s just me

I do agree, i did suggest some captured stuff, but i 100% Prefer Homegrown stuff.

Honestly why not, would make for a decent and easy-to-introduce premium.

The Capture Sherman’s are real warthunder had one a long time ago all be it was the M4A1 but they also captured the M4A4E2 76 (W).

Are you talking IRL or in WT. The one in game is a M4A2.

Ooooo I can only hope for firefly and jumbo

yeah I meant the M4A2 but still they germans Captured 16 Shermans and four if I remeber right we the M4A4E2 76(W).

The British made use of German made ammunition with Cuckoo and maybe with “Deserter” however I don’t know if Deserter saw combat like Cuckoo did.

As if Germany would produce 17pdr ammunition…

17pdr ammo used two driving bands just like the Panther ammo.

So the German 76,2mm shells wouldn’t work with the gun.
Not to mention the whole issue of producing 17pdr propellant cases with new percussion caps and all just for a few captured guns or vehicles.

Even without tank ammo they would still have plently of MG ammo or use it for all sorts of purposes.

The only ammunition they produced for Captured equipment was for equipment they captured in extremely large numbers, around 1,300 Soviet 76 mm F-22s alone were captured, not even including other 76 mm towed guns or 76 mm armed tanks which shared the same ammunition

Compare that to the 17 pdr which they captured only in extremely small numbers and operated in even smaller numbers.

This can also be seen with their heavy use of the 76 mm guns in modified forms or on self propelled mounts as tank destroyers, something they never did with 17 pdr guns.

They also didn’t have access to the factories producing the ammunition, unlike the Soviet, Czech, and French guns they produced ammunition for.

i find unrealistic to believe that they would be producing their own ammunition for the 17 pdr, especially in such a late stage in the war where they had to worry about manufacturing ammunition for their own guns.

it’s even more unrealistic to expect this to be done with no mentions from anyone, no primary or secondary sources support your claim.

And where did you get the performance of these shells from? considering the AP round is a Soviet design with inferior performance compared to German and English AP.

i believe you’re trying to say M4A3E2 76 (W), they captured no intact Jumbos and operated no Jumbos during the course of the war.

They did operate a few standard 76 mm gun tanks though.

We already have 2 captured fireflies in the Italian tech tree. we do not need a third.

Germany already has the best or 2nd best guns at almost all br brackets, it does not need the 17 pdr, period. Source: Germany is one of my main tech trees and im at 7.7

besides, this is just a sherman firefly, if you want to play it then just go to the UK or Italian tech trees and get it there. the Italians even get APDS for one of theirs.

Oh yeah also, the image used here is pretty cool since it shows the formerly-Canadian Firefly refit with a PaK 40 muzzlebrake.

This mod was most likely performed by the Germans, but it is in no way indicative of the tank firing German made ammunition.

Muzzlebrake swaps, while rare, defininitely happened at fairly small scales during the war
One fairly well known picture show an M4A3 (76) W equipped with a Panther muzzle brake, the tank most likely didn’t have a muzzle brake prior to this.

The Italian Fireflies are not captured, after the war while Italy was rearming its nation, they purchased large amounts of Western equipment, including many Fireflies and other Shermans, at the same time they were also repairing many damaged tanks left behind by the Allies after the war ended.

A fairly common trait among Italian Fireflies is the readdition of the hull radio operator, though never with his own dedicated machine gun.

Unfortunately, as far as i know, they never bought APDS for these tanks, so they shouldn’t have them in-game.

The 76 mm ammo isnt of soviet design. They are adapted upscaled 75mm desinges but anyway.

Oh great another captured vehicle for germany. At that point give russia a tiger.

What variant??

Are there any special differences??

Nope. Other than the names.

M4A2 75 (USSR, UK) (Sherman III)
M4A3 76 (UK) (Sherman IVA)
M4A1 76 (UK) (Sherman IIA [or AY if it had HVSS])
M24 (UK) (Chaffee I)
M18 (UK) [I’m not even sure if we operated it TBF]

We also used the M4 (105) HVSS (Sherman IBY)
M4A3(105) HVSS (Sherman IVBY)
And a few others I’m too lazy to write out.
