Flankers are the only real threat here as long as they’re capable of hitting you with R-27ERs.
The F-2 however is able locate them first and defend against ERs pretty well thanks to radar, FM and defensive kit.

It wasn’t. Initially the F-2A didn’t even have J/ARG-1 (which is needed to use AAM-4).
The initial service missiles of the F-2 were AIM-7M, alongside IR AIM-9L and AAM-3.

The, do fit the launchers, same as the AIM-7M, but I don’t think they would be very useful without proper datalink integration for them.
So unless for some reason they decided to integrate AIM-7P datalink despite not having the missile, it would basically function like an AIM-7M would only.
I’m up against R-27ER’s and AIM-120A/B’s and this guy is still trying to make excuses for the AIM-7M’s
