I have not played it in a long time, so I probably wont notice any difference, I am remembering how fun it is though.

As a continuation of this, and something that would actually help the F-2…
In my research on the 7P probably not actually having datalink, i did find that apparent the 7M/Ps should actually be PD not CW.
Lowkey, PD 7Ms would be even better then current 7Ps are.
Im very tempted to bug report it.

Would it change anything? I don’t think any in game SARH are of PD guidance.
None are, but considering there are CW ARHs in game, that carry over their properties from CW SARHs, i’d imagine gaijin would just have SARH PD be the same as ARH PD.
IE. Additional inclusion of a distance filter, which would help with making sure it goes for the right target, and make them mildly harder to fool.

Because as of right now the 7P lowkey isnt even thay much of a step up over the 7M.
IOG+DL only really matters for funny LOAL tactics which, while viable, are hampered by sparrow kinematics.
PD, meanwhile, is useful in basically every other situation. It will basically entirely remove the sparrow’s tendancy to decide violence on random targets.
Also distance gates + no accel rejection range makes notching situationally harder.

That’s nonsense. It’s a massive upgrade. The 7P can be infinitely relocked the same way the R27ER can be, so notching has to be done for the entire duration of missile approach until the 7P can no longer see your aircraft or maneuver to hit you through datalink.

The difference is, unlike the 27ER, the 7P lacks sufficient energy to make effective use of the tactic in many scenerios. The R-27ER’s effectiveness in this tactic comes from its energy being sufficient that even if your new target is fairly far away from the old trajectory, it can still hit. An Aim-7P does not have such luxury.
Its not to say it cant be used, forcing its use from a much closer range does hamper its effectiveness substantially.
This is only possible in a scenerio where the missile is being notched, but no chaff is in play. Seeker SRC will take priority over DL for any lock/detection, even this.

Uhh no it doesn’t, people do it to me all the time. 7P has extremely high range, it just isn’t super fast.
Yes… it does. Most AIM-7P shots are like 1/3rd into it’s NEZ.
Nope. I’ve had people do this to me in my notches constantly. You can spam all the chaff you like, the Hornet player can just keep relocking you as soon as the missile bites off.
last i checked, the 7P does not have a wormhole device that can instantly reposition itself to be pointing at the target with zero energy loss.
if i notch your 7P, you can relock, but it’s literally never going to hit me again. the geometry for that does not exist

absolutely. by the time i’m in the notch, the missile will be too close to me and once it bites down on the chaff it will never hit me again.

well, yes. majority of the sparrows i notch are too close to make use of relocking.
