actually, flaring an AIM-7 and chaffing an AIM-9 is funnier considering the AIM-7R and AIM-9C
It’s a video game, I genuinely don’t expect things to make sense.
I just observe and make assumptions based on said observations
I enable auto countermeasure firing and it fires both I can’t be bothered to manually select one of them 360 flares and chaff’s don’t care.
Multipathing isn’t a guaranteed shield for radar missiles
- you’re flying too low. Catwerfer has a video explaining why
- Top-down launches dont really care for multipath as they just end up going through you to hit the target they’re going for (see Catwerfer’s video)
what i’m most concerned about in this discussion is that people, you included, have seemingly forgotten all about the concept of sidelobing.
i used to see alot of complaint posts everywhere (reddit, discord, forums, etc.) where people would cope and seethe because they died to R-24Rs or AIM-7E-2s despite deploying all of their chaff. and while indeed the radar lost lock, sidelobing guides the missile.
also saw posts where some guy said AIM-7E-2s are “literally AIM-120s”, because he thought his AIM-7s hitting targets with his radar being chaffed meant that his sparrows were active seekers.
but now? the sidelobing concept was seemingly forgotten and instead just taken as a quirk of the game for non-PD radars.
I mostly play Fox-3 brs, never really played brs where I had Fox-1s.
Especially since I started off with Germany all I had was the R-27 and MiG-23 which I never learned how to use.
This was back when 100m MP was still a thing
So I will get stuff wrong about Fox-1s, doesn’t help that nobody corrected me
i guess this is also a large part as to why you were adamant track memory was magic. you never had a chance to use regular FOX1s.
Nobody ever corrected me either, so there’s that too
because no one ever knew, either.
This is how I enjoy the game and I love it this way
i’m probably one of not very many people that knows the more intricate mechanics of radars and FOX1s in the warthunder community.
same thing with the FOX1 mechanics of warthunder itself, not alot of people know what really happens behind the scenes.
infact, you ever had a situation where your sparrow goes for a completely different target than you were intending to launch at? yeah, that should be physically impossible, but gaijin uses a severely simplefied system for SARH seekers. issue is compounded by absolutely ridicioulus sidelobes.
the issue seems to have mostly disappeared as of recent, but it still happens here and there.
happened to my friend in an F-20 with his AIM-7F even have clip of it
It’s perfectly fine where it is. In fact, It’s really good where it is. Look at my statshark for it if you must, but it’s only going to go against your claims.
Not to mention a BR lower for the ADTW has been posted about 3-4 times recently that I’ve seen.
I’m always at 13.7 and 14.0 matches with it.
Sure, you may enjoy it
Just don’t complain when the big flaws of that gameplay come to bite you
I had that happen with an R-27ER once…
Bizarre clip
So is everyone else.
It’s still a good plane where it’s at
I too, I still have no issue. Learn to notch, turn cold, whatever. The plane is fine, especially considering it has an HMS, a non-gimbaled AESA.
