It oscillates between bad and mediocre
Pretty sure some bug reports have been made about an increase in engines thrust and AoA.

In-game it already pulls up to 50º AoA in a single axis turn, which is the theoretical limit no? You can do 60-65º with rudder input.
What the jet might be doing wrong is pulling too much AoA/ not having enough lift in hard turns I guess, which will ruin energy retention.
Sustained turn seems to be close to IRL, but it could be underperforming in unsustained turns.
matches acceleration charts and it meets sustained rates chart while having underperforming engines for sure so like…
if it had its actual engine performance, it would be “nerfed” in order to still meet its sustained and acceleration charts.
But, I think its turn out side of sustained would become better because more thrust.
The old flight model that everyone still wishes it had had a coefficient of lift that was higher than the aerodynamic manual.
gaijin then nerfed that, which cooked how much lift it generates at aoa, which means hard turns outside of sustained turns made you lose all your speed. I could yap about this forever, but squish already made a good video on it.
I remember going on the forums and mig-23m and giovanex yapping on and on about how the mig-29 was cooked in wt
Sure, then move ~14 13.0s down to 12.7 for balance. [Not my stance.]
About every jet or even every plane was nerfed in a similar way 1 or 2 times I think. I remember that when the MiG-29 was nerfed, so did every jet.
The block10 did 25 deg/s sustained turns with the old FM. Now its what? 22?
nah, f-16s were majorly buffed that patch, they all got their g limiters removed. this was sons of atila patch. so the power dynamic between the f-16 and mig-29 were at an all time low.
gaijin did buff the mig-29 fairly recently, upping its oswald coefficient to make it better at sustained turns, but it’s nothing special compared to the f-16
yeah f-16s got slightly nerfed and mig-29 got slightly buffed since sons of atila. Not AT sons of atila
That buff was accompanied by a massive nerf in sustained turn rate
was it? I don’t remember that specifically ngl, I just remember everyone complaining about mig-29 and gushing about how f-16 was finally allowed to be on an equal playing field (it dominated the 29)
if it was then fairs, but even with that nerf it still dominated all mig-29s
Because people don’t notice such details. Only the G limit lol
i mean that would probably be the most obvious lol. I wasn’t a sim player back then, and sustianed turn rate is really only something a sim or dueler would notice
The mig29 was always the worse dogfighter between it and the F-16, that’s why it has a better loadout
yeah but before mig-29s was at least competitive with anything that wasn’t the block 10 due to most people just compressing too much.
after that it just straight up lost
especially smt, goodness gracious was that thing horrid on release
The mig29 currently sits in between the F-14A/B and the F-18A/C in terms of pure dogfight performance. But it has the best interceptor FM of 12.7 (top speed and acceleration)
imo it’s worse than the f-14 especially after recent buff it got
yeah that i agree with. thats why for arb i dont think its cooked. but for duels/sim specifically it is
Its better. At least the 9.12 is
The mirage 2k will outpace the mig29 at sea level, but considering the acceleration/climb its the best interceptor (and the radar missiles work for the job)
doesnt it rip before the mig-29? mig-29 reaches 1575, mirage 2k is like 1545
Yeah you are right. But the mirage 2k can maintain rip speed at like 103% afterburner, or if the mig29 is running at sea level you can do a shallow climb and catch up if he doesn’t do the same.
The mig29 at 110% throttle at low altitude won’t go far
