POLL : Would you like an AoA limiter key?

Exept AoA override IS a actual thing that’s being used in digfights IRL.
You better call the USN saying they are wrong and need to learn fight without the button on the FA-18

we can get the G limits too if you want aoa limits, for realism. and stop aircraft from pulling more G than allowed like what is going on now

either this can be a game where people learn how to fly their aircraft with no trash limits or we can pretend to be real life and you can hold down a stupid g override button for 25 minutes of the match duration

I mean, are you familiar with modern aircraft?

A big part of some planes’ combat design and advantages comes down to the quality and power of its fly-by-wire system.

Now, RB Air has a built-in FBW for all aircraft (in fact, autopilot, not FBW) but I don’t see why RB cannot have control over what the FBW does if the plane allows such settings/mode switches in real life?

Otherwise, are you saying pilots who use stability augmentation systems in real life to not fall out of the sky are unskilled?

logical fallacy. game skill and real life skill isn’t the same. in real life these limits are needed so pilots don’t die. in game death isn’t bad and its part of the game therefore learn to fly your thing and if you want all these IRL limits then go join the airforce

it wont be added. good so. learn how this game is played. go in dcs if you want something different. thats what i do if i want to hold down a stupid button to pull a bit more G’s in my hornet

ingame there are many differences to real life to make the game fun to play. if we copied real life then rafales and eurofighters wouldn’t be fightning each other infact they wouldn’t fight anyone and for safety, only training fights would be flown and then they would stay on ground for rest of the day. we dont need that here.

understand that games purposefully have some difference compared to real life so we can have fun, like less limits

It already exists in air sim in a pretty rudimentary way.

I can take out my F3H-2, F8U, F8E and enable “Stability Augmentation: Damping” and this prevents me from pulling AoA above critical (caps it at 95% unless you bleed too much speed for it to keep up.) and smoothens the curves

AOA without damping, F8E

AoA with damping, F8E

The gap where AoA goes down was me levelling out to accelerate to 1km/h as I was getting stall shakes.

Test:

Spawn in to test flight at 3 km, roll left and afterburner on, yank stick full back until stall shakes.

Accelerate back to 1km/h, yank stick back and keep it there until I bleed too much speed and die (stop just before dying to save logs).

Both test cases I literally parked the mouse joystick at full elevator deflection and didnt touch it. Naturally, given I’m arguing “it exists in sim already”, this is done with full-real controls (Standard Mouse Joystick).

It would be even more needed when the FA-18 comes.
Limited to 7.5G normally. But turns like a UFO at low speed when the AoA override is pressed.
Almost stupidly fun in DCS with the AIM-9X and HMS when digfighting

in a reasonable way. what is not reasonable is people pressing a button and then not needing to learn energy management which takes away a large human component from dogfights and removes competiteness because players can just press buttons instead of use their skill
this is a game. it wont be added.

just learn energy management lol

Ah. I see you are clueless on how the plane works

ah. i see you are clueless that this is war thunder. go fly dcs if thats what you like. this is war thunder.

Nah, i like WT for some brainless action in RB and SIM.
You don`t play SIM much do you?

trying to turn this into a sim/realistic argument lmao bye

the things you want from other games into war thunder arent coming and you can go play the other games instead

Well, we just have to wait and see don`t we Mr.Gatekeeper?
I think my tryhard description on you seems to fit just fine

If people can use it to literally prevent themselves from dying because they got spooked and yanked too hard in sim, why can’t air RB people use a variant of it to force their aircraft into its designed flight envelope if said aircraft is equipped with advanced enough FBW systems to achieve that?

It literally doesn’t let me kill myself unless I’m really trying. I spawn in to testflight and yank hard on roll and pull and immediately stall my F8E without it. With it, I just get the shakes.

To note: I don’t think anyone should do the roll hard and yank manuever ever, just saying SAS as it currently exists makes sure you can’t kill yourself by being very stupid.

might throw in an automatic flap’s toggle aswell. might fix the mig29 and su27

Stop wasting energy for nothing buddy, you didn’t understand what I am asking for.
It looks like you are thinking about sim mode, where there is not the virtual instructor assistance, and that is made to be flown with a joystick. Just like a real simulator.

Here I am talking about the realistic mode, which is made to be flown with mouse/keyboard and virtual instructor assistance. In that case, when you pull, your only energy management is to tap more or less faster the elevator push command. The only skill needed is how fast you will hit your command to get the turn rate you want. I don’t know if it’s only me but I don’t find it really interesting.
So the idea is to be able to manage your energy in the different way.

I have read from someone that it will give an advantage for delta wing because they will loose less energy in a turn… Yes, thank you captain obvious, but you forgot to mention it will have a bigger turn radius. So at the end it don’t give an advantage.

Remember we are talking about realistic battles with the virtual instructor, not sim flying. So no point talking about any flying skill. Flying skills are required in sim mode or other simulators like DCS. Not War Thunder, as the instructor do it for you. It’s only about situation awarness, positionning, aiming, and basic energy management.

Hey Nike, Can you clarify your point on why it shouldn’t be added? Is it the button itself or is it like having 1 less thing to worry about?

That’s technically a G-Limit switch, similar to the Su-27’s “Co-brah” button, which allows you to push the airframe past a safe limit, possibly damaging the airframe in the process.

This is a very nice feature and I myself have long argued that a similar feature should be implemented, but we need to be a little creative in how we implement it.

  1. the limiter is only triggered when the button is pressed (the limiter behaves the same as the current WT when the button is not pressed)
  2. The limiter is not triggered unless it is enabled from the options(In this case, the limiter is always activated and the limiter release button is enabled.)

It must be one of the above.
The reason for this is to prevent the limitation from being applied only to players who are unaware of the existence of such an option, and also because there are certain players who do not want to use such a gimmick.

Ideally, the limiter should not only include the AOA, but also a combined G-limiter, and it should monitor acceleration and be adjusted so that it does not decelerate from the current speed, or accelerate slightly.

For even higher functionality, it would be desirable to be able to change the G-limit from unlimited to about 7G in real time using a mouse wheel, but a simple one-button operation is also acceptable.

It is also important to note that these features are a great help in handling airplanes with fragile wings.

Not it is not (I mean not in my idea), because if it’s a G limiter, at low speed, the aircraft will still pull all the AoA it can (you will reach high aoa before high G).

If it’s an aoa limiter, it would be still possible to take too much G (and rip the wing off in some cases) when you pull at very high speed.
