Today it was announced that France’s newest high-tier premium aircraft will be a Belgian F-16AM MLU. This is certainly disappointing for French players who would have preferred a domestic airframe to fill this role.

It is also very disappointing for fans of Dutch aviation, as the Royal Netherlands Air Force is currently extremely underrepresented compared to other subtrees in the air mode. The highest-BR Dutch aircraft in the researchable techtree is currently the Hunter F.6 from the 1950s, while the most advanced Dutch aircraft in-game is the F-16A Block 5 from the late 1970s, which was only available as a limited-time event vehicle.

The reason I would like Gaijin to reconsider this choice is that Belgium is already very well represented when it comes to F-16s. Belgium currently has three F-16 variants in the French tree: two in the tech tree (the F-16A and F-16A MLU) and one squadron vehicle (the F-16A OCU). In comparison, the Netherlands has only a single F-16 represented in-game: the event F-16A Block 5.

What makes this choice even more frustrating is that Belgium already has the exact same F-16AM configuration represented in the game. Both the existing tech tree aircraft and the newly announced premium are exactly the same F-16AMs, meaning they only differ only in their liveries.

A Dutch F-16AM would still be an F-16, but it would at least offer something different from the current Belgian MLU. Dutch F-16AMs featured several visual differences, including the brake chute housing and the fuselage reinforcement plates found around the airframe, features that Belgian F-16s lack. In addition, it would finally provide representation for the modern Royal Netherlands Air Force, as the Dutch subtree currently does not contain any aircraft newer than the 1970s.

The Benelux subtree was introduced to represent both Belgium and the Netherlands, yet the higer air trees overwhelmingly favor Belgium. Replacing this premium with a Dutch operated F-16AM would still provide France with the same gameplay capabilities that gaijin apparently wants while helping to create a more balanced representation of the two nations within the subtree.

Really we should have gotten a Mirage 2000 or Rafale instead of yet another copy-paste of an aircraft not used by France

Ya, it’s odd; it’s another Belgian F-16 when the Dutch so far only have one.

No, it needs to be removed. They copy pasted it from the tech tree to premium tree and added IRST track to make it “different”. The F-16AM is just another lazy way of gaijin getting their money.

the f-16am rn is the most copy paste in the game. exact same model, same weaponry, EXACT same name (the irst does not count for me because the situation remains)

at least in the past they try to make it a seperate regiment, but this is literally the EXACT same vehicle

new low for gayjin

We reached that new low the moment they released anime skin tanks for another $70.

The Russians were the first to try to dig a really deep hole. Only fitting that Gaijin would dig a really deep one for themselves.

I mean, the new viggen is identical except they slapped early on the name and called it a day,

Yeah, it’s a pretty strange choice. Belgium is currently missing its own low-tier aircraft, since most of what they do have in-game is concentrated in the mid to higher tiers. Outside of the Hunter, they essentially already have most of the fighters they operated from the 1950s onward.

The Netherlands, on the other hand, is almost the opposite case. They have WWII-era Fokkers, but very little post-war aviation content aside from aircraft like the Sea Fury, Hunter, and NF-5A (I’m excluding event vehicles, since not everyone has access to those).

Because of that, I would’ve expected a Dutch F-16 instead, since that would finally give the Netherlands a proper post-1970s aircraft. Belgium, meanwhile, would have benefited much more from lower-tier aircraft like the Renard 36/37, rather than a copy-paste of an aircraft they already have.

Honestly i would gladly slash the number of Belgian vehicles in half provided the remaining half be replaced with unique vehicles. Quantity does not replace quality for me

3 Belgian F-16s is already a lot, make it Dutch at least and let’s hope we get more unique french stuff in the future.

They could make it Jordanian because they operate the Leclerc MBT

Well, I have good news for the people who also wanted this change.

Gaijin has officially confirmed that the premium F-16AM for France will be changed from a Belgian BAF, aircraft to a Dutch RNLAF example.

yeah I was expecting (and hoping) they’d release the rafale M f1 as the rank VIII premium plane. I was really worried they’d do this instead because now they’ve released an F-16 that hard power creeps my Netz (mod) as a premium

I don’t see how the F-16AM powercreeps the Netz. They’re in completely different BR brackets and don’t even share a tech tree. The only thing they have in common is that they’re both modified versions of the F-16A.

value proposition.
basically I wouldn’t have bought the Netz if I knew the F-16AM was coming is the litmus test here and the fact of the matter so it’s buyer’s remorse

He’s got a pretty good point. They can always change it.

Unless they would make it Magic II only that absolutely wouldn’t happen lmao.

Any Mirage 2000 or Rafale with MICA is 14.0-14.3 minimum and thus not happening as a premium.

This would’ve been the better choice and people were hyped for it too Mirage F1EM VI: The Ultimate F1 - #2 by Shin_Kazama the perfect 13.0

13.3 at minimum, probably even 13.7. This is still MICA we are talking about.
