As of right now the only reliable way to counter the SAMP is by using the Kh-31PD which isn’t found on many aircraft. This is a problem as the regular Kh-31 doesn’t work unless you get really close or climb up to 12km and go Mach 1.5 and even then you might still get shot down by the SAMP before you can get close enough to launch. Even if everything goes right the missile may still get shot down which means all of your effort evading the shot range AA and other players was in vein. There are a few ways that this could be fixed such as making it so the Kh-31P is able to re-gain lock after the radar is turned on given the target is within a certain angle of the nose of the missile. This would make it so engaging the SAMP from higher altitude is a viable counter as when the missile defends it keeps the target within an angle where it will regain lock for longer. This is just one idea and I’m curious what you guys think should be done. (I would use a 100mt nuke on the SAMP if I had that option.)
Kh-31 isn’t the only ARM available nor is it the only weapon to use against SAMs. SAMP/T is actually one of the more tame SAM systems in Nuclear Escalation, S-300 is way more annoying to deal with as it fires way earlier.
Likewise, unlike Air RB where you can basically do your own thing, you actually have to work with your teammates to get rid of SAM sites. If you play Russia, your only job is to suppress or destroy with Kh-31 or Kh-58, play as CAP and let your teammates with AGM-154 (usually Super Hornets on USA or GB) clear whatever is left.
It is effectively the only option as all other options have the same flaws with worse flight performance. Other weapons either don’t have the range or get shot down due to being too slow.
