Please fix costal mode!

I spawned in my coastal fleet on an encounter battle in Norway, and guess what happened. I lasted barely 5 seconds when I was facing destroyers and light cruisers barely 5 km away. Both times that i respawned, I was just obliterated. I left the battle in disgust.

My coastal fleet consisted of Pr. 151M, AK-225, Pr. 1204 late and Pr. 191.

So, honestly, what is the whole point of this mode when coastal boats are spawned next to destroyers and cruisers with no chance of survival?

In fact, what is the whole point of having high tier coastal boats when they are just cannon fodder for destroyers and cruisers?

I see no point at all grinding these high tier boats when they will just get obliterated by destroyers and cruisers that spawn so close to coastal boats in battles.

I would have attached a video of the pointless battle I was in if I could.

This incident has just put me off from grinding high tier coastal boats.

Thank you

no offense without context of a pic or video it sounds like an A.I. wrote this up

It ain’t; some maps have coastal spawns painfully close to DD spawns and almost anyone will immediately focus a PT boat the instant they’re close enough.

I’m in the camp of ‘coastal can suffer since they want to be annoying’.

the only point to coastal is to ruin BB matches by taking inshore points and bleeding out the tickets before even scout planes can get there.
The whole naval system needs a re-work and re-balance.

Coastal shouldn’t even be allowed past 5.0; most ships literally can’t get to cap points fast enough thanks to ticket bleed or other players.

Coastal literally gets the best spawns in the game and the sheer power they hold over high tier matches is nuts.

awhile ago I spawned a coastal ship, capped the inner 2 points and the match ended so quickly I didn’t have time to J-out and pull a blue water ship to do any damage, so I got zero activity and no points for the match… the ticket bleed is WAY too fast in higher tier naval.

I am in agreement that Naval needs a rework. Caps either end up being way too exposed for DDs or larger or way too advantageous to one side (Norway is the most egregious example of one-sided. South has way too much power into B and C while north arguably has the advantage in encounter.)

Ticket bleed faster, if not enough real players in the match. So those who take points in this condition, shoot their own leg.

OP problem is that he thinks that there is “costal mode” beyond 3.0 and don’t take big ship in setup. Encounter maps, which were designed for big ships now played on 4.3+ BR, but never were redesigned or tweaked for that low BR. Convoys on those map have heavy cruiser, which is nightmare for 4.3 DDs, convoys also have a bug, that they attack beyond effective gun range(so even cargo ship spray 20mm shells over you from 8 km distance), which also big treat for small boats and planes.

I think coastal should be allowed to spawn in high BR matches. HOWEVER, they should NOT be “allowed” to end matches so soon by capturing a cap point or two.

I have been thinking about some possible changes to prevent this major issue:

  • Dramatically increase the time it takes for small botes to capture a zone in high BR matches. It could be tied to how many crew members a bote or ship has. I would personally be fine with it taking MINUTES for a PT bote to capture a point. Even up to something dramatic like 5 minutes. It would also allow the opposing team some time to try and destroy the small bote. You want to spawn in your small bote in a high BR match to cap? Fine, it should take you WAY longer to cap. The rewards for capturing a point could stay the same or even go UP if the time to cap was increased like this for small botes.

  • Same concept as above with the scout planes in high BR matches.

  • Conversely, I would be OK with very large ships getting an DECREASE in cap time. Especially battleships. The only botes that I think are working OK with the current capture point time would be Destroyers.

  • A change to cap point times should obviously only apply to matches above ~5.0. I do not feel that there is a significant need to alter the cap point times in low BR/Coastal matches.

I think I had some other ideas, but haven’t had enough coffee yet lol ☕ Will edit when/if I remember more.

Bottom line though, SOMETHING must change for coastal botes capturing cap points in high BR matches. I will not advocate for simply removing our ability to spawn a ship/bote of our choice. There are plenty of other ideas we could advocate for to prevent high BR matches from ending in 5 minutes, without having to take the drastic step of completely removing coastals from high BR matches.

Final note: The replay links/pages do not stay up forever. If you wish to keep the replay for your own records, click the “Download replay” link and download ALL of the parts to your computer. You need to move ALL of these files to a unique folder and not dump multiple replays into the same folder. I prefer to name my folders starting with YEAR.MONTH.DATE [Description] so that they are easy to organize on the computer by name, and then find again later. For example:

2025.12.22 Bad Coastal Match

The “Server Replay” files are VERY different from the Replay files stored on your computer. The Server Replay files contain ALL of the information from ALL of the players who participated in the match. Unlike the automatic replay file in your War Thunder folder on your computer which often only saves the information that YOU “saw” in the match. You often cannot switch to another player’s viewpoint with the automatic replay files.

I agree. It’s absolute nonsense. Boats shouldn’t play against destroyers. And it needs better maps and spawn because there are several maps where even destroyers spawn opposite each other just 5km apart. If you fire torpedoes, you’ll spawn and die immediately. And boats are just food for frigates, gunboats and destroyers. It’s absolute garbage. Gaijin doesn’t address this and BR is another sad chapter. Because BR in ships is the biggest nonsense I’ve ever experienced. A boat with 12.7mm and 8 people has the same BR as a 75mm gunboat with 2x 7.7mm and 36 people. Absolute nonsense. For example, France 3.0-3.3 absolutely dominates and kills everything. You don’t stand a chance against them with boats. It needs a big rebalance and separate boats and frigates and destroyers and change BR.

Amiens and Marne are completely busted, especially since those got fishing boat spawn for some reason. They are fast, Well armoured and armed. Then we have groza on ussr on 3.0,what is slow 2x 102mm and gets frigat spawn…

Thanks. I have enclosed a replay link of that battle I mentioned in my post:

I could not agree more. French 3.0-3.3 boats like the Marne, Amiens and Arras totally dominate coastal battles. This is evidenced by the number of these vessels that spawn on either side in a single battle.

In practically every battle that I spawn in a non-French motor torpedo boat, I am facing one of these vessels and I get obliterated. What chance does a wooden boat have against a vessel of steel construction?

Seriously, this entire BR issue for coastal mode and wooden boats having to face off against vessels of steel construction need a rethink.

Thank you.

Skills problem

A more ec styled mode would fix things. But that would require time and effort on gaijins part and they need that to add more op premiums to the game instead

it not even that facing steel boats.
But seriously facing boats what should be on frigate spawn , like any other similiar vehicle is on other nations lineups.
Marne, just doesnt belong on fishingboat spawn.
Amiens is bit softer and most dangerous thing in it is twin 37mm on back, and best way to play against it, is to focus on rear turret first, it is seriously weak and having ammos on that silo under turret makes it very vulnerable even on 50cals
