Not until they make the AI utilise its sensors to detect players, the barebones implementations for ground AI is too lazy. AI SHORAD SAMs have ESP and aimbot at all times and don’t rely on their radars to intercept munitions or detect players. Otherwise, the event could stay.
Imagine flak guns on the ground, forcing fighter airplanes to escort bombers so the bombers can bomb the flak guns while the fighters battle around them the other fighter airplanes.
Maybe, maybe gaijin will finally make the gamemode good
Even if they did 0 damage, Id love the visual effect of flying through a cloud of flak fire when approaching a target to drop bombs in a heavy bomber
Air RB EC as god intended
a mode like this would give all aircraft types a good reason to exist, it completely stirres the meta up and removes the current Fighter only gameplay
it makes using loadouts that aren’t purely A-A useful too
Well why don’t you go arcade with infinite respawns?
I do play Air Arcade so I can spawn in multiple times, up to 20 respawns with my full lineups (and soon 22 times when I get the 11th crew slot.)
But I have always LOVED the RB modeling/controls. I would play ARB if I could actually use my lineups. Even if we could only change aircraft after landing. And/or make it Spawn Point based like GRB:
I have posted multiple rants already, here and in the official thread:
Not infinite, limited by 2 spawns each plane (if backup) and with the amount of planes in your lineup
Definitely needs to be a permanent mode but it will definitely need a mixed matchmaker because the que times for the US team are aweful. USSR is easy ofcourse.
I would say absolutely. This april fool event to me it’s definitely the best gamemode I experienced since I started play this game.
The event gameplay is quite good compared to a normal ARB match, but there are a few really annoying things in this mode that need to change.
the absurd amount of AA should be reduced, as well as how stupidly accurate they are. every single air to ground missile, including the new ARM’s get intercepted before you can do anything. you have to fly at treetop height all the time, and even then you still get hit.
the main gameplay loop is spawn, fly at tree height, fire a missile or two, defend, die, repeat. The gameplay is not much better than regular air rb, other than being able to respawn
+1
This event compared to ARB is a big refresher, it feels nice to have teams actually work together and slowly work through objectives and actually have more threats than just enemy aircraft.
The map size is also a big upside, you have to tactically defend your main airfield at the beginning of the match as if you lose it your deployments to where combat happens is much further than before, making stuff like fuel consumption even on planes that are decently good on fuel economy wary of when to use Afterburners.
This event overall feels not like an April fools mode (aside from balancing issues), it feels like it can already with a few balancing changes be the new Air RB, This event needs to be permanent!
You really should hug the terrain or use long range munitions instead of trying to gun run SPAAGs…
I honestly wish the maps were even bigger with more stuff (or airfields farther)
it satisfies my brain constantly seeing “Missile Evasion” and seeing 15 symbols on my RWR while it screams at me
If they reduced the number of AA’s and made them a bit less accurate it would be 10x more fun
Yeah this very well could be a bridge to truly expansive maps, where missiles can finally be unchained from their decreased stats.
hmm… I’m not gun running. Long range stuff is shot down pretty regular. Terrain hug is almost always suicide after a few kills.
I find the AA the a enjoyable part of the event, it is way more realistic (and fun) to have to be wary of the AA, just like reality SAMs and SPAAGs should be deterrent from direct engagement from ground forces or long loiter times over enemy AA areas of effect.
Having to make plans to either bypass said SAMs or use precision guided munitions to disable them from afar has been a nice refresher and makes stuff like Su-25s and A-10s more useful and a valuable part of gameplay.
the size of the map is great, and the different objectives are awesome to see. most of the matches ive played on both sides just turn into treetop height pvp in the centre of the map
the problem is you cant bypass them at all since there are so many of them. the guided munitions all get intercepted immediately
If the maps were GIGANTIC, the AA wouldn’t be hugging our ass and we could fly higher
