Planes Getting Stuck on Airstrip when Spawning/Repairing & Rearming - Known Affected Planes/Maps, and Tips for Getting Unstuck

This post is not intended as a bug report. It is intended to reach other people having the same issue to see if anyone has found a plane and/or map with this problem that isn’t on my list, or has been able to find a way to get unstuck/avoid getting stuck in the first place (if that’s even possible), as well as to provide more information to people like myself who might not have been aware of the issue until recently encountering it.

To make sure this issue gets resolved much faster, here is the link to the main report on the bug that the mods link to when someone uses this forum to report having this issue or makes a new post about it on the bug reporting portal:

Press the “I Have Same Issue!” button to get it raised higher up in importance. o7

As the intro says, I would like to know if there are specific planes that you’ve had this problem with, and/or on what maps it was an issue, that may not be in the list at the bottom. Additionally, if anyone has had luck with either avoiding this issue or has had high success rates using a certain method to get unstuck, tips and tricks would be much appreciated.

I had this happen to me for the first time 4 days ago and then again yesterday, using the J29D and the SAAB-105G, and it drove me insane to the point that I spent way too long writing all this up. Hopefully not for nothing, seeing as it’s been ~2 months since this problem started again (it seems to happen every 1-2 years at least), and there’s still no fix for this most recent plague.

TL:DR and list of planes/maps reported to have this issue towards the bottom of the post.

In the J29D on Pyrenees (left main airfield), I was stuck immediately upon spawning on Air RB. I tried all sorts of ways to get unstuck: afterburners, firing cannons, rudder control, moving flaps up and down, and even resetting the plane by J’ing out and by letting the reload timer run down. Nothing changed the outcome; no matter what, I was just stuck, and my plane’s wheels appeared to be slightly glitched into the ground, with the landing gear in general almost off the very back edge of the airstrip. On top of that, the plane was “bouncing” slightly and erratically. I never made it off the airfield for the entire game.

I wasted a decent SL booster on that match all because the game decided I was having too much fun in my last few matches, as if it were an underpaid police officer pulling you over on a beautiful and sunny day while you were driving along the coast just because he saw you singing along to music and looking like you were enjoying life with the top down on your convertible wearing cool sunglasses, supposedly he “suspects you’re transporting illegal drugs” and so he “has to search your vehicle”—aka got jealous that you didn’t hate your life and weren’t miserable and bored all day listening to an annoying dispatcher say stupid numbers and locations over the radio while drinking your fifth cup of black gas station coffee (they were out of powdered caramel creamer and Super Synthetic Sweetener 5000™) while eating stale donuts from yesterday morning like he was.

Then last night, while playing Ground RB on Fields of Poland (Winter) (left side spawn), I was trying to get the Best Squad medal to complete a Best Squad Wager with my friend since we both activated one. I brought in the SAAB-105G to drop a couple of bombs and take out the enemy team’s CAS. After taking some minor damage in a fight with an SU-11 and using about half of my ammo plus both my bombs, I decided to RTB and resupply/repair to come back out and fight another SU-11 that the enemy team had spawned. Once I landed, I turned the plane around and waited to repair and rearm. It spawned my plane at the very back of the airstrip with the landing gear almost off the end, just like the last time with the J29D, and I was completely stuck once again. Nothing I tried would work to get me unstuck. After attempting for a few minutes to escape this fate, I just ended up J’ing out so I wouldn’t waste any more time trying to do the impossible—hoping that thanks to my generous feedings, The Snail might be kind to me just this once. I was wrong.

This instance also obviously impacted our ability to get Best Squad, for which we were only off by 2 badges to get ahead of the squad with the most awards towards it. Because I was too far from my friend when he got a few kills for them to count for the Teamwork badge, and being stuck, I lost my ability to attempt getting more kills in my plane. Needless to say, we did not advance—and subsequently failed—our wagers. Thankfully, not without having advanced them at least a few levels.

Both these times were, as you can assume or may well know, infuriating. I don’t tend to rage when I get killed by an absurd shot or if a few matches in a row don’t go my way. But what does piss me off, is when the game glitches and causes me to end up with wasted boosters/wagers/TIME and/or the inability to even attempt to survive a situation that wouldn’t have been a problem otherwise, for example:

I played a match recently during which the game decided that the perfect time to install an update was right as an enemy tank—which I knew was coming and was waiting to dome with a massive HE shell—rolled past the corner of the building I was hiding next to, causing it to freeze. The game only—and immediately—unfroze once my tank exploded, and was also kind enough to leave the audio running so that I could hear the whole thing happen.

It was such unbelievable timing that it felt as though it had been done intentionally—like being bound to a chair and unable to move, made to watch as your favorite pet is brutally executed right in front of you. Except that there’s nowhere to direct your anger, because the “execution” was just a freak accident, and whatever force had bound you to the chair only existed for that brief moment. But either way, you’re still mad, your pet is still dead, and there’s nobody to take revenge against for it. Poor Brummbar…

TL:DR

I’ve been in two separate matches within 3 days, one on ARB and one on GRB, where my plane was stuck permanently at the back end of the airstrip on initial spawn and after landing to repair/rearm, respectively. This resulted in wasted boosters/failed wagers as well as frustration, and whatever your preferred word(s) would be for the opposite of having fun.

Nothing I tried would get the plane unstuck, and both were from the Swedish tech tree, which seems like it’s the most affected (specifically the Tunnans), but it does happen to other nations’ planes. Pyrenees seems to be a hotbed for the issue, with the Tunnans being most affected by it.

Since no fix has been released, I’m wondering if anyone has had luck getting unstuck when this happens or avoiding this issue generally, and how they did/do it. I’d also appreciate people mentioning any planes that I didn’t list that they’ve had this issue with, and which map it was an issue on, if possible. Mostly to satisfy my curiosity, but also to help people avoid the risk of running a good booster and playing one of these planes just to have it wasted.

I spent over 3 hours scouring the bug report portal looking for tickets submitted within the past couple of months that report this issue; some of them show or say the maps, and others don’t. If they included the map name, I attached it to the plane model(s) in the report.

I have uploaded clips from each instance to this post for examples. Hopefully, this issue will be solved soon, but it appears to be a known bug and, while it flares up like this every 1-2 years or so, has generally been known about for over 4 years at least. It also seems to be becoming more common than it was right after the Leviathans update; I hadn’t experienced it after it came out (which is when people started having this issue en masse) until now, and considering that I’ve had it happen twice within a week after not at all, along with the uptick in tickets for it within the past couple of weeks, I don’t think it’s unfair to say.

I’m having a similar problem whenever I try to take off in a aerobatic server in my KI-200 but for some reason it bounces nonstop.
