planes in high tier completely disrupt the rhythm of ground battles as one bomb run with 1000 lb explosives can easily destroy many vehicles in one sortie and their bombs bounce off buildings so there’s no way to defend against them, by the time anti air interception happens bombs already on their way to the target…
what i dont understand is why planes are allowed to join ground battles but you are not allowed to join air battles with SPAA and some IA does that instead, helicopters are honestly really fun in ground battle and it fits their role of combat support while also giving AA a chance to engage in combat, you can even hide from them if aware of your surrounding or used enough smoke but its very frustrating to play ground and realizing you didnt lost against tanks but planes without possibility for defense lol and the decision of playing AA in ground means there’s one less player for the purpose of attacking or defending a capture point which is detrimental for the team
there should be a mode for SPAA vs planes and another for ground vehicle + helicopters, this would make anti air vehicles to engage more frequently in combat rather than sitting in a single spot constantly waiting while also extending the duration of gameplay for ground battles
SPAA systems where to short range too be useful in air battle modes, with the new systems though if you could spawn at the bombing target bases they might be functional in air battles. I don’t know if those maps support ground vehicles out side of the small bits that are in GRB currently.
Actually, having players defending bases might discourage the napalm rushes some what.
Even if they spawned at the mid point, they could still be dozens of KM from any aircraft. Even the new long ranged SAMs would be hard pressed to hit a jet that is at 40k ft and 60+Km away.
its not like it matters where they would spawn, people just wouldnt fly above them, so they would have to drive halfway across the map to where people are fighting
In current air matchs? sure they would be of very limited use, but in and actual combined arms EC mode there is some potential. But like I said, a few Buk-M3s sitting near the bases would at least discourage the more brainless napalm rushers.
Oh? so that argument works for not putting SPAAs in ARB, but many CAS player where adamant you could not do that when arguing against new SPAAs in GRB…
except in grb the objective is to kill the ground targets, so if you add antiair to airrb and an objective that they have to defend, youre just describing grb
and if you put SPAAs in ARB they would be to protect objectives like the bases.
if you where designing a combined arms map you would spawn them near CAS objectives. Like the SEAD event, put with players as the targets as well as the planes. I’m not advocating just randomly dumping them into current EC… although that’s likely how gaijin would implement it.
All the new SPAAs are 12.0 currently as the don’t have a separate ARB BR… base bombers are common enough at those BRs
Even still. If there was a single Objective protected by player controlled SPAA, then anyone not doing the PvE part of PvPvE would simply stay clear. That could be everyone. Those that are, would be ready for it and engage appropriately. Ideally such an inclusion would come with necessary weapons like ARMs.
If there were multiple objectives, then you could be spread across a wide area, and you’d just have to sit and wait for someone to come close. If anyone did.
Imparting GRB Compression onto ARB/ASB just seems unfair. The aircraft the new SAMs are meant to counter are those at 13.0+ in ARB/ASB. Most 11.0-12.3 CAS aircraft (in GRB, and so are potentially a higher BR in ARB/ASB) are currently DOA in GRB at the moment and GRB needs a decompression which would move these new SAMs up in BR.
Pitting an 11.3 ground attacker against 13.0+ SAMs just out of spite, would be extremely unfair. The appropriate SPAA for that BR would be things like the ADATS, Otomatic, 2S6, etc, etc and not Buk-M3, IRIS-T SLM, etc etc
