F-86 first flight was in 47
And like I said, the p80 and f-84 were further along in development. This was all a contract proposal. There were four aircraft competing for it. Fj-1, the p80, the f-84, and the na-140. The na140 is a straight Wing f86. Eventually they swept the wings back and this became the XP-86.

Yes they may have been designed before Korea but that’s where they first saw combat. I also said era so that includes 1946-1955 in my book. The lead up and post war. Also, the F-80 and F-84 both were the main jet powered aircraft for the US in the start of the war. The inly reason you’d say that “Korea is more so F-86/MiG-15” is because that’s all you hear about. You don’t hear about the early years of the war, at least in most of American history, because it went terrible for the US, and who likes to highlight their failures? XD
Yeah, test flew. Not in combat… I was talking about combat. Prop Vs. Jet. Combat like that for the F-80 didn’t happen until Korea :)
With good team work, props can beat jets. In a 1v1 however, props can do nothing to a jet pilot that makes sure to keep his speed. In a prop you may run away to alt with superior climb, but you will never get to a position with a realistically accessible gun solution. This, however, requires that the jet pilot learns the needed discipline, so jets vs props is not always an automatic loss for prop pilots.
I think keeping things as is is the most interesting setup for War Thunder, as jets vs props brings a unique aspect you don’t usually see in flight sims.

Any prop plane with cannons can take down a jet even if you put them against the modern f-16’s
cause the missiles have a hard time tracking the heat of the pistion engine due to it being less and the speed diffrence actually helps cause the modern jets just overshoot the props because of the speed and it makes it hard to hit them.

Does depend on the IR missile. Some struggle like hell, while others don’t. For example there is an active bug report for red tops not locking onto props correctly

I don’t know man. I’ve been able to take a few of those out playing props. It’s also slower than the P-51H and Spitfire Mk.24 and that’s just what I can think of off the top of my head
Have you ever played a meteor mk3? Has better sustained turn rate than any high tier prop and is faster than all of them. But at 7.3 it gets uptiered all the time and still does fine because it plays the “prop” role up there, even against the later meteors.
