Panavia Tornado (UK versions) - Technical data and discussion

Why is that that only the Tornado GR1/GR4 cannot drop the MK.82 and Mk.83 LDGP bombs above mach 1?

I thought that was their entire purpose over the General Purpose bombs and they were safe for release up to mach 1.1?

Guided versions of the LDGP bombs are fine, they can be dropped at least mach 1.14…

Wait what?

I thought every bomb was Mach 1 except for special exceptions like PW4

Tornado seem to be the exception.

All other planes that I am aware of: Typhoon, Gripen, Hornets can all drop their LDGP bombs above mach 1.

F-15E cannot. Seems like a bug.

Anyone having any success with the Tornado GR.4 and ALARM in this latest NE test?

For the life of me I cannot get ALARM to hit with the changes Gaijin have made to the AI SPAA radar behaviour.

I can’t fire from beyond 10km since that’s how far you need to be from the 2S6 for it to turn on it’s radar but if you fire from 10km it turns off it’s radar and the ALARM misses or if I fire from closer the ALARM still won’t hit even if they keep their radar on.

(No clue how far away i normally am but over 40km)

Nope. Just need to sit outside of the missile’s engagement range so they keep their radar on.

Finally my time has come.

Yes the ALARM only works for long range static targets in game like the hawk batterys, the SHORAD does not activate from far enough away for ALARM to be effective, and likewise firing upon launchers shooting at friendlies doesnt seem to work because the radar deactivates shortly after, leading to a miss, particularly if the radar is moving.

How are you flying the gr.4? I still havent gotten a single hit with the alarms as sub 10km it cant hit anything but any further it gets shot down.

Firing at +50km, around mach 1, at 7km altitude minimum, then I do a few laps with the BOZ on to keep them interested.

Yeah, just had a game and managed to clear out all the hawks systems for my team. The ALARM is usless against the gepards and rolands tho, which is kind of annoying when the next best thing is either a brimstone or pgm.

Kind of annoying that 9ms are required due to the sheer amount of players doing solely air to air but what can you do.

I just take one 9m

Same, still annoying how you have people complaining about the lack of points for air kills…

I dont know, something about a really cool gamemode killed by people who think its a good place to grind? Just try to have fun people not everything is a grind.

I love the tornado

Its not usable against short range SPAA on the nuclear game modes, it is a standoff weapon and best used as such.

Its best to use it at high altitude and long range against long and medium range radar installations, they cruise at 12,000m and can reach speeds of 2500km/h

  1. Spawn at rearmost base
  2. Climb to 9000m+
  3. When within 50km, Launch at the HAWK, EW and PANTSIR radars untill all their long range capabilities are dead.
  4. Bomb freely against the short range radars from 5000m+ altitude where they cannot engage you using paveway IV and brimstones.

km/h

would love that though.

Also they’ll comfortably do 80

Did UK Tornado use mine/bomblet dispersing pod? The funny one that disperses them in 2 directions?
Curious if we would ever see it in the game, just because I want it so much.

JP233.

But it was mainly intended for runway/road denial rather than area denial like the MW-1

and hopefully if we ever get CBUs (they did do some CBU testing during NT)

You know you dont even have to climb to alt to fire them, im reaching 90km while firing them off on the deck. Im guessing yours probably get to target quicker but it does allow you to get alot closer without being shot down so easily.
