Pakistani T-80UD(6DT-2E) - Improved excellence

That’s strange…
Because by all means the newer welded turret would have been designated the BE-1 instead of the standard BE…
Maybe its a simplified use of the name?
And we do know there were cast turret T-80s in service
So we cant ignore that fact either…

The source states that the first 145 batches were delivered with the cast turret whilst the remaining 175 were delivered using the welded turret, features of the 478BE also included thermals and other things borrowed from the standard T-84 - it’s going to be a fact that cast turrets were operated by Pakistan, the majority however would’ve been the welded turret.

Maybe its a simplified use of the name

Maybe, I’ll look further into it

I may of struck gold, I’ve found a reposted official promotional video of the T-80UD 478BE/BE-1 being produced either in Ukraine or Pakistan which CLEARLY showcase the welded turret of the T-80UD (you can tell by the placement of the smoke grenades, they’re on the rear side of the turret instead of the front cheeks).

Just made a thorough bug report on the T-80UD 478BE issue, but by looking at Gaijins track record it will probably be rejected lol. All I want is a unique event vehicle for China and Gaijin isn’t making this any easier.

IMO, Al-Khalid is the most “Pakistani” of all the Pakistan MBTs. It was their longest development cycle of producing an “indigenous” MBT, which is in turn a customized MBT-2000.
But Gaijin added that as a premium. Which led me to believe that Paki additions will most likely be event/premium/squadron rather than a dedicated subtree line.
Now, can be wrong tho.
Gaijin added the 2020 upgraded Al-Khalid-I as premium and not the base 2001 Al-Khalid variant. And there’s also the Type-85 IIAP, Type-85UG and Al-Zarrar. But still have my doubt tho.
But since Pakistan comprised of 2 parts till Bangladesh separated out, maybe an East+West Pakistan subtree can be formed? Then Bang Durjoy and VT-5 can bolster that subtree (but again, Bang T-69 II G is already a premium, lol). {Oplot-P is defo Chinese premium since it was just for Pak trials and not inducted}
Again, doubt it but lets see.

had a (imo weird) T-64 suspension.

Not weird, its the most superior of all the T-suspensions but also maintenance heavy and more complicated.
Remember, T-80 started off as an upgraded T-64. Object 476 was the upgraded T-64, first to feature the 1000hp 6TD as a major part of the upgrade.

But was canned and the GTD-1000 would be selected for what would become the T-80 + a suspension similar to that of US’ M60 + inheriting most of T-64’s armor flaws.

{ 476 will lead to 480, in what was envisioned as the ideal T-80, which addressed all the shortcomings of T-64 in terms of armor protection and weak spots on the turret and hull + APS + RCWS + 1000hp 6TD + T-64 suspension. But alas all sacrificed for that turbine as mentioned above i.e obj 478 }

(coming full circle, Ukraine would later upgrade T-64BM2 Bulat with the same 1000HP 6TD, 45 years later, making the Obj.476 project a reality).

Anyways, During Pak trials, Ukraine sent two tanks. 478DU with T-64 suspension and 478DU1 with T-80 suspension. Ukraine still had faith on the T-64 suspension at the time and wanted a revival.
[ IMO, Ukraine wanted a 3rd party trial (here Pakistan) of the T-64 suspension before deciding what to use for their own future MBT project i.e T-84. ]
The trial proved that, due to T-64 suspension being lighter, the overall weight of the Tank was lighter and hence 478DU had a 3-4kmph max speed advantage over 478DU1. But Pakistan went with the simpler T-80 suspension and hence its consecutive mass production which decided the T-84’s suspension’s fate.

( But the T-64 suspension is still proving its worth, cutting through the heavy Ukrainian countryside snow-mud mess every year, especially observed during current conflict, where all other MBTs bog down like T-72s, T-80s, Chally-2s, Leo-1s etc. Hence T-64 is sometimes nicknamed ‘queen of mud n snow’ )

i was wondering, are you pakistani?
@TPS_Hydra maybe you too?
in case would u be interested in making a full scale suggestion for the pakistan + bangladesh Tech Tree?

Snapped from the vid, minus the rubber flaps which causes confusion

Nah, I’m from a country called Somaliland but I doubt you would’ve heard of it before, I just like Pakistani vehicles like the T-80UD mentioned in this thread lol - and Chinese vehicles as well, the ZTZ99A is pretty cool.

actually have hehe
i respect the interest

That’s true, I just think it would be an interesting subtree since Pakistani uses a lot of Chinese equipment, and could fill . One of my more anticipated additions would be the Maaz, the M113 with the HJ-8 / Baktar Shikan, T-85IIAP, or M48A5 firing M833. I just really wish Gaijin had given the T-80UD we’re getting a better round.

it will also receive the new FnF Bakhtar Shikan which would make it pretty potent imo

Guys, in fact, I’m still quite worried about how to improve China’s top MBT if gaijin doesn’t give Oplot-P.

Just unlocked the T-80UD 478DU-1 and I have to say, this vehicle is genuine ass. I don’t like to rant and stuff but this vehicle isn’t really any good at 10.7 and especially when you take into consideration the poor reverse speed and the sorts of teams you get at 10.7.

Half of the issues are on the teams but constant 11.7 matches in what realistically is a high 10.3 vehicle is pretty goofy, this should’ve honestly been the T-80UD 478BE with the welded turret, domestic shell and improved transmission/engine but Gaijin had to be half assed with their stuff ig.

the main issue with this BR range i encounter is the lack of comparable vehicles at 10.3-11.0. Even for my Leos, i get constantly up tiered to 11.3+ and have to fight an uphill battle. Gaijin should focus on this BR range a bit more for ground before adding more top of the line MBTs

The performance disparity between vehicles at 10.7 and 11.7 is probably the biggest issue, on paper the T-80UD 478DU-1 doesn’t seem to be that bad of a vehicle but the fact that your team melts and the poor reverse speed make it so you’re highly dependent on your team and their performance.

It genuinely baffles me how aviation got a AESA equipped 13.0 Kfir with ARH missiles whilst ground got a T-80UD with thermals and 1 extra ERA panel (deadass the only in-game difference). The T-80UD 478BE would’ve been the best possible event vehicle Gaijin could’ve ended the year with but they had to fumble the bag yet again.

Gaijin should focus on this BR range a bit more for ground before adding more top of the line MBTs

Gaijin should also focus on giving China an actual 10.7 lineup, the T-80UD 478DU-1 is literally and I do mean LITERALLY the only 10.7 vehicle other than a Mi-35M which is locked behind a paywall.

And no, the J-8B and F-5A doesn’t count, they’re horrid for CAS
