The ‘realistic’ APHE the community was clamering for was in regard to their explosive effect, not their penetration. I’m not even sure why this got brought up, I agree but did you mean to reply to someone else?
Anyway, Gaijins calculator is flawed because it gave a flat buff to APHE rounds across the board, with the Soviets reaping the biggest benifit from the move to the calculator. But only the USSR has shells with usable sloped penetration, so much so that it out performs APFSDS!
This is how you get stuff like the German 128mm unable to penetrate the upper front plate of a T-44 and a M103 unable to front pen a IS-3 despite being specifically made to do so irl. Or the more infamous example of the 90mm M3, USA’s cat killer can’t kill Panthers

As much as NATO designs with L7 cannons, which also still get better ROF winning by at least 3 seconds?
I doubt they believed the AP would do so, thus why they introduced HEATFS.

cough cough KA-50/52 and Mi-24s are very well known for taking severe damage irl and still flying, they’re like B-17s of helicopters
*Ka-50 is NOT known to take damage well irl, seeing as it only saw a VERY, EXTREMELY short stint of service with a test unit in Chechnya.
However the other two I have no clue on their combat survivability compared to WT.
Theyre residtant to gunfire. Missiles take them down as easily as any other aircraft.
