I also have to ask, how bad is the American AH-64D in the game? I know it is nowhere near the best and sadly I rarely see them when I am in ground RB, but they are such an iconic attack helicopter. Is the AH-64D truly bad or are they average or are they good but not as good as they should be?
It is hard to discern its real state on the forums since some opinions are given by folks who never actually flew the vehicle or sometimes they overstate weaknesses to get buffs (of course they can also be spot on in their criticisms).
Also, do you think Gaijin might add the Apache Guardian relatively soon?
The 64D is bad and is just outclassed by the AH-1Z Viper, the Viper can defend itself much better with AIM-9Ms and the rotary 20mm. 1Z also has MAWS as well, but the new RWR sets I find more valuable than MAWS (they both have the same Radar Warning Receivers as far as I know, and they can discern between threats, MiG/F-16/S1 Pantsir/Ka52 etc).
For some reason unknown to God nor man the Viper is stuck with Hellfire Bs instead of more modern Hellfire Ks but I don’t think it makes a whole lot of difference. The only reason to pick the Apache is personal preference or the Radar: it’s sometimes useful for scanning for Aerial targets while you track everything else on the ground.
Soon? Unlikely
I’m not sure what improvements it would offer either, maybe an option for Spikes?
Rooivalk is the best helicopter for the BR.
Z-10 and F&F missile carriers make up the other 4.
Anything with Hellfires honorable mention.
Anything with Vikhrs require a higher skill ceiling against armored targets due to the lower pen.
800mm tandem warhead with 5kg of explosive mass + Fastest flight speed and a proxy fuse vs AA and missiles = Higher skill ceiling? Bonus points for mentioning the Z-10 with 345m/s ATGMs that is only good to shoot down AA, thanks for the laugh.
AlvisWisla is, and I cannot stress this enough, astoundingly wrong when it comes to helicopters. His dismissal of the the Vikhr as “just a TOW 2 with 2km extra range” is hilariously wrong and his complaints about a lack of pen mostly expose an unironic skill issue on his part. Yes, the relatively lower pen can, on rare occasions, let you down but 99 times out of 100 it has more than enough pen with even a little bit of aim. While his personal preferences are, of course, his own he is wrong about the objective relative power of helicopters and I would not expect the vast majority of players to have a good time if they follow his ranking. The Vikhr is the best helicopter missile, full stop, and it isn’t particularly close.
I think for the current meta, the israeli AH-60 is looking to be the best helicopters for now. 16 Spikes or [8 Spikes/8 Hellfires K] is a extremely deadly combination.
It’s hilarious how wrong your post is on Vikhrs.
First off, Vikhrs have a 10km range against static targets, not 6km as your post implies.
Second, how is it a skill issue on Abrams players like myself for our armor working against 800mm of “chemical” pen? lol We don’t need to learn to aim. We just position ourselves correctly.
If we get penned by Vikhr/TOW-2 when playing Abrams, Leopard, etc it is indeed a skill issue on our parts.
Third, it’s obvious you’re a fanboy of Russian equipment cause you’re defending a hilariously mid missile.
Mokopa is if Vikhr was amazing as you claimed.
Thank you…I have seen Alvis’ facts before and weigh his responses just like everyone else’s on these forums. He is definitely entitled to his opinion like everyone else, but I appreciate you looking out for newer folks though. I have never heard anyone dismiss the Vikhrs so much, so his take is interesting to say the least. Many folks with a lot of experience say they are quite strong. Again, I have zero personal experience except perhaps dying to one ;).
I am most interested in other experienced heli folks’ opinions on the Rooivalk. At face value it seems good to decent, but I have zero experience with it.
