Well… a whole lot of 14 people have voted. Not very informative
That is incorrect. IRL anyone can and is trained to make a spotting report and the only thing required is a radio. If anything, any type of unit should be able to “scout”.
The whole purpose of surveillance drones is to scout, so it should have been a mechanic from their introduction.
Scouting promotes team play. WT is not supposed to be just a death match shooter.
This particular quote was a reply to “Battlefield Management Systems” being mentioned. If we’re talking radios, than, as the other user has agreed, scouting should probably be a little less precise and it probably shouldn’t persist for so long after destruction of spotter’s vehicle. Neither should it be possible to scout without an operable radio.
WT is not supposed to be just a death match shooter.
Yes, that is supposed to be more than that, but it isn’t right now and it probably won’t ever be, so please, let me just get my kills without getting “killed” by dead crew’s callouts.
These are actually fair points. A good way to nerf it would be that if the recce vehicle gets destroyed then all the vehicles spotted by him stop being shown in the map.
I also believe scouting shouldn’t be given to every light tank/IFV, since not all were used for recce purposes. More specific vehicles, such as the Luchs/Scorpion are good examples of what recce vehicles should be like; Fast and weakly armed. We should get more like those in the game.
It needs a rework imo
there should be grace attempts for failed scouting
the window for an assist shouldn’t end immediately as soon as scouting tag ends
it shouldn’t work as a GPS tracker on your vehicle
there should be counterplay/ways of removing it (i.e. smoke/losing LOS from what scouted you)
IMO it would be more relevant and fine how it is if maps were bigger down to the lower BRs. More spread out, more relevance for scouts marking dangerously positioned tanks.
At the moment I feel like it’s more of a tool to get into the air faster.
I think its fine as is. If your team has good recce guys you have a major advantage that is earned. If anything rewards for scouting in light vehicles should get rewarded better so that more people realise they can actually help the team out
Thats not how that works. IRL or in most any cooperative MMO game.
That is exactly how it works IRL. IRL you can only call out general position of where the enemy was when you saw them, not put on an imaginary GPS tracker on a vehicle that you don’t even see anymore.
I think they can put down a gps marker of sorts with BMS and datalink. Infact, it should be able to be immediately sent to CAS so they know where to look. They should also add buddy lasing.
Ah… fgs… this playerbase is cursed beyond help.
Let me explain what drove me to this discussion.
This happened twice today.
I’m currently in a process of completely spading Swedish ground vehicles (at least until I get too bored of that). Today I’m mostly playing a Pvrbv 551 (8.0 ATGM carrier). ATGM carriers are nerfed into oblivion for the sake of “realism”, since the playerbase is more concerned with having that, rather than having an actually interesting and engaging gameplay, but that is a completely different story.
I’m not geriatric so I don’t want to sit in one position the entire game, waiting for someone to come to me, so I try to play as aggressive as the vehicle allows me to. In two such games this happens: I crawl through half the map at my whopping 20 km/h to flank the enemy team, on my way I encounter a light tank which I manage to kill one-on-one, and I die 5 seconds later with “According to intelligence” in a battle log from a guy who would’ve never seen me himself if it wasn’t for me being scouted by a dead LT.
This game mechanic is unfair by definition: It in no way could possibly benefit me, I don’t need it, I don’t use it, I don’t want it, but it can be and is often successfully used against me.
It may seem great for you, your 0.77 K/D ratio and players like you, but it isn’t for me, since we’re basically playing two different games
That’s like saying missiles should be removed because you choose to only use guns instead lol
No. Missiles and guns are two different means of achieving the same goal.
Scouting doesn’t help me achieve my goals in any way at all.
If your goal is kills then take advantage of your teammates scouts to find more targets quicker
But if I know something is where it is, then I should be able to do that…
It’s not that I can see it, it’s that I know it to be there. ‘Intelligence’ if you want to think about it.
‘point my bino’s at this portion of the map and hit scout button to designate someone I didn’t even see’
No one even does that because the penalty for scouting air is a full minute cooldown or smthn
I like the idea of scouting, there’s so little teamwork between randoms as is.
Thing is, I commonly watch where they have been, and know where they’ve rolled back to. I am one of those who does spot through the terrain because I actually think.
Scouting should be added to helicopters and the 750sp drones as well
Iike, man, i don’t mean to be a jerk and I’m sorry if I’m acting like one, but it’s just one of those several little things that drive me crazy sometimes.
If my teammates can scout someone - that means they see them (Let’s forget about drones for a moment), if they see them - they probably can kill them, if they can’t kill them - someone else will. There is no place for me in this equation.
I really think that it would be way more fun for everybody to not have any markers In GRB, but I would be more than satisfied if, at the very least, scouting dropped after scout’s death.
And I do think that it is in fact one of those mechanics that benefit “bad” players disproportionally more than it benefits “better” players.
it could be you though.
if it stopped updating the location sure, but i dont think it should full stop make the marker disappear
