The whole point of ground realistic battles is essentially playing hide-and-seek. If you are spotted - you are dead. Especially at higher battle ratings. That makes active scouting an almost guaranteed death for the spotted, since it lasts so long, persists even after spotter’s death and updates target’s location even without LOS.
Discussion below.
Active scouting should be removed from GRB completely
While i can understand your suggestion for lower BR’s (maybe make it less accurate there since the information sharing is manual with radio) in higher BR’s with modern vehicles there is a thing called “Battlefield Management Systems” that basically works like an IRL mini-map where you can tag hostiles to have them show up on all friendlies screens as well.
There is no inherent necessity to make the game as realistic as possible, it should be up to the devs and a player base to decide. There are plenty unrealistic things in WT. I’m simply sharing my experience and thoughts.
I may be wrong, but i don’t think that sensors, crew or whatever else can relay any information if the spotter’s vehicle is blown up and spread across a square kilometer.
Not all “friendlies” even have screens with maps on it that can connect to such systems to begin with.
Some valid points, best option then would be for you to create a suggestion in the suggestion section:
They do have rules and guidelines that need to be followed and the posts are pre-moderated so will only get posted if the Suggestion Moderators approve of the post (meaning it followed thee rules and guidelines).
For game mechanics they usually require that the suggestion is quite detailed.
Yes but…
If you are scouted that means somebody saw you. Scouting just gives you a more convenient way of marking people on the map other than just clicking their location to mark.
It is no different than clicking the map and saying this vehicle is moving south west in practice. It just makes it easier and less work.
Think of it as your commander updating the team on the location. If you have ever played a game like squad, post scriptum or hell let loose you will know tanks with more than 1 person playing it make it easier for one person to just communicate with the team.
Then i recommend changing your title of this topic and maybe re-write the main post to make it clear that you are trying to gather opinions. Right now it just sounds like a straight “i have an opinion and want [xyz] to change to [abc]” .
I agree drones ruined it, but I was fine with only light tanks having scouting. It gives them a special ability that makes them worth being played IMO.
Yes, but! If we’re looking form the point of tank’s crew doing the spotting, then again:
Who’s relaying information after the vehicle is destroyed completely?
Who’s relaying information, if the vehicle has just been hit, and the crew is busy recovering/extinguishing fire/reloading a weapon/etc. and nobody’s operating the radio station?
Cause my main problem is just how annoying it is to destroy a light vehicle a little to slowly and then get killed “according to intelligence”.
And if we’re looking form the point of the player doing the spotting, then my opinion is that this convenience is way too convenient for the gamemode, and clicking on the minimap should be the way to go. Squad, i.e., has the voice chat in addition.
And the drones I just don’t like, and i doubt that many people do, but that may not be true.
It’s very busted and needs to be nerfed, but not removed. It’s a cool feature, but it needs to stop being ‘point my bino’s at this portion of the map and hit scout button to designate someone I didn’t even see’.
I have to say i disagree.
First. From the beginning of the match there are spaa’s spawning on both sides (used mainly as a tank more than anti air), it’s rare that a UAV stays in the air for more than a half minute. It’s not guaranteed that a scouted enemy will be destroyed. whilst controlling UAV your tank is totally exposed, at high tiers fast light tanks love to flank and rush, not to mention CAS. I’m not a good tankman and I play mostly medium tanks and mbt, but I have no problem with others using UAV.
Plus on some maps you can literally spawncamp from your own spawn (or from a nearby hill)
I don’t think it would be that hard to nerf as they’d just need to reduce the detection radius to be almost completely central to the crosshair, but yes I agree that radio station or radio operator(if applicable) being dead means no ability or delayed ability to scout.
honestly more content like this would be awesome !
I want more scouting / detection methods not less - in particular more use of the existing radio skill - using modern tech like mentioned in the video or even just the radio gunner broadcasting spotted enemies automatically if idle
Command type tank variants would also work well with these mechanics
Command vehicles could be for supporting team mates with existing features like entrancing, deploying ammo refills and ideally have some repair bonus like the Centurion Mark V ARVE.
I kind of fantasized about a rehaul of crew mechanics, would be cool if WT had crew perks instead of what it has right now.
It’s a whole different topic to discuss, but, the overlap is - what do you think about adding a radio operator/commander perk called something like “communications interception” that would tell you if you’re scouted? Just like the “lamp” that they’ve got in the “other tank game”.
in terms of radio skills and communcation interception one of the most interesting concepts they could do like this without a major overhaul is in naval with the float planes - a simple radio on / off toggle because those planes were often searching for submarines via radio signals.
you could extend that basic feature to realistic tank battles easily as modern tanks are full of computers and detection equipment if you were to go " silent " UAV would almost certainly struggle to find you allowing a solution to OPs issue as well.
could also allow users to play with mechanics like switching off ones engine to surprise enemy tanks at a choke point.
