F-18 & F-4F ICE use the same radar.
In close proximity dogfights, F-18 wins.
However in BVR they’re “identical.”
And in boom & zoom the F-4F will come out on top.
F/A-18 can sustain its speed much better than F-4F, not to mention the fact that it carries more missiles than the Phantom. More importantly we need to look at this comparison in FOX3 meta, not FOX1. F/A-18 would be much better in BVR due to simply being a better platform for flying defensive. It can turn cold faster and turn back faster, can evade quicker and pull more Gs if needed.
Raw stats are realistically uselles in these comparisons. We can get the general but that’s it and a heavy 3rd gen platform will never as good as the true 4th gen.
F-18 can sustain speed cause it can’t pull more than ~6.XGs normally, and more than 10Gs with the paddle depressed.*

If you only pull 6 - 10Gs in F-4F it sustains its mach-speed rather well.
As for defensive BVR, all afterburning jets are identical in defensive capabilities.
F-18 is good, especially in the costs of acquisition, operation, and maintenance.
However, it still has flaws in some areas.
