So given the war thunder data project was brought up earlier to allude to the M1 allegedly being less than capable compared to its contemporaries (in the same vein that near all of germanies vehicles are apparently) I decided to have a look at what else that site shows as I was only familiar with thunderskill (albeit the data project uses thunderskills statistics).
Well even if you were to take the statistics here at face value, which myself and others have pointed out previously are inherently flawed, it would appear that the M1 is performing pretty well and above average compared to other vehicles at the BR. These are the most up to date statistics on that site as of 14/10/24, I can take a guess there hasn’t been any updates since given that thunderskill is down.
In the process of typing this I decided to check back and as it turns out thunderskill is now back online, so this data project now has a new entry. The BRs are still from before the increases since as far as I could read it draws that information from the war thunder wiki which has not yet been updated itself.
As has been highlighted previously the thunderskill statistics (which this draws from) use a biased sample. It was speclistmain and maybe one or two others that were trying to argue that it didn’t matter when they were asserting that the M1 was performing badly because of bracket win rates being low.
The point of my post is to highlight that the exact same source when inspected in further detail indicates that the M1 is performing well for where it is. The statistics are still unreliable, as they were when assertions were being made by the US mains in regards to win rates and vehicle capabilities.
It’s just slightly funny to note that if we were to take these statistics at face value then the exact same source contradicts what was trying to be argued.
I think there is merit to wanting a model corrected when it’s wrong or using a wrong shell like m735 people will have to accept vehicles may move in position when things are corrected but as it stands I don’t think m833 is a big enough of a difference from the current shell
My post was mostly aimed at your comment that M900 could also be added because some other tanks at the same BR have better shells.
M1 is fine with M774, people will cry about it just for the sake of complaining.
I agree with what @HondaCivici said early on in this thread. A lot of people here seem to think that the Abrams desperately needs M833, which would be true if it was the only tank to get uptiered to 10.7, but it wasn’t, and as such I’d argue it doesn’t really need it. However, I think a lot of people are also severely overestimating the effectiveness of M833 relative to M744. While it’s a marginally better round across the board (about on-par with DM33), it’s no M900 or DM63, and it’s not like it’s gonna be the end of the world if the M1 got it.
Link to @HondaCivici’s comment earlier in the thread:
Reload and reverse speed mean nothing if you position yourself smartly and can one tap the enemy through their front with limited challenge while you’re near impossible to get damaged in return by the M1.
What’s the difference between the two then? Come on, give me a value stat as to why the Object 292’s armor and round isn’t on par to a higher BR?
I mean, you’re the one that decided to bring it up on what the tank fights. They’re limited in strength so yeah, I can see that balanced as they can both pen each other. However, how does that apply to the M1 that struggles with a good amount of the tanks it fights while EVERYTHING can pen it frontally?
Nope, and the armor analysis is free for everyone.
I’m confused by the “if it was the only tank to get uptiered to 10.7” part. It is currently 10.7 and regularly sees 11.0 and 11.7. And hopefully if we get M833, Gaijin can remove the anemic M735 (which has 292mm pen at 10m at 0* angle. God speed on having to use that all the time as M774 is a tier IV modification once you get to the M1).
You’d be surprised how much angles go into effect at that BR. A lot of armor at that time had shifted to geometry style combined with the composite armor.
While this can be ture as long as the element of surprise are in your favor. which isn’t alway the case.
And once the enemy notice that you are there. You have no control over enemy action or their movement Thus they can alway turn their strongest armor to face you head on or go hide behind cover. Especially when the map give you somethings like Advand to the rhine or Cargo port.
Then this will comedown to peeking duel and frontal weak spots duel. Usually the side with better pen and armor coverage has the advantage in this case.
oh the " its stock excuse " Lol you are the one calling out people skill when skill is the last thing you should bring up. No vehicles is tock after 98 battles. What were you doing spawning in and AFK’ing? Honestly you can bring up my stats go right ahead, when the only vehicles you are doing good with are the meta vehicles, you shouldn’t talk about someone elses " skill " when you don’t have any at all. You aren’t on teams where its just you and 3 other people vs an entire enemy team already looking at your spawn.
when they both just got uptiered and are going to be able to fight 11.7 vehicles that can look at them and 1 hit kill them without even trying to aim, but both the leo 2a4 and m1 abrams has to cherry pick shots.
My live reaction to pointing out that the “11.7 vehicles” that it now has to fight are the exact same ones they were already fighting because everything moved up in BR for the Nth time.
