Suggestion No.87

G’day lads. Due to other nations having some giraffe vehicles suggested, I’ve seen that China has none compared to them. Therefore I want to suggest the GT6 Anti-Tank Missile System from Norinco, which uses the Blue Arrow 7 ATGM :)

Description:

Spoiler

The Norinco GT6 ATGM System is a, you guessed it, a system meant to be used against tanks. It uses 3 illumination modes for launching; from it’s own platform, from a different platform or from a soldier. Additionally, the system carrying the Blue Arrow 7 ATGM’s can erect and retract, with it also being capable of using; concealed launching, fast launching or continuous launching functions. It has an azimuth of 360° and has a 6km range with the missiles (BA7 missiles can go up to 8km, however this vehicles laser designator can only go up to 6km).

History:

Spoiler

I cannot find much history about the GT6, however it was first shown as a model during IDEX 2011, where in the same year it was fully shown too.

At this time, China really started to make more and more anti-tank missiles, like more modernized HJ-73’s and brand new missiles, one of them being the Blue Arrow 7 (BA7). When the GT6 was first shown, people thought it was a HJ-10 (which is just completely wrong), but in reality it was a BA7. The BA7 can not only be carried on air platforms like helis and drones, but also on ground platforms. The only ground platform I could find carrying BA7’s was the GT6. The GT6 is also the only ground platform (as far as I know) which can self designate it’s BA7’s due to it’s own sight. It can have 2 sights, both of which were tested on Z-10’s and 1 of the sights is already found on the Z-10’s ingame.

The GT6 wasn’t seen again after this, only being seen from a 2015 brochure about ATGM’s from Norinco, however the website did still have the image of the GT6 still being shown.

Armaments:

Spoiler

8 Blue Arrow 7 ATGM’s, featuring 6km range (8km normally, but the ground platform can only designate to 6km) and has 1400mm RHA of penetration if it hits a target at 0°, or 400mm RHA at 62°.

Additional important info can be seen below from Norinco brochures

NOTE: I’m aware that there is a brochure talking about the HJ-10, and then showing the GT6 in the background. That image in particular is however most likely just filler, as it is the same image found on the GT6’s actual brochure page (and only BA7 is mentioned). It is also seen carrying a BA6, therefore it is not included here.

Specifications:

Spoiler

The GT6 uses a Shaanxi SX2190 truck as it’s chassis. The truck alone has a length of 8m, a width of 2.55m and a height of 2.67m - 3.1m. The height comes of course from the truck alone, however thanks to the launcher, it can go 5m higher. The truck (along with the system) weights around 19t. It is powered by a WeiChai WD615.77 6-cylinder turbocharged diesel engine, which gives it up to 280hp. With it’s engine, it can go up to 85km/h
