No more clear skies

For the last couple weeks it has been impossible to get into a lobby with clear weather. The best I can find now is “Thin clouds”

I’m all for varying weather conditions but currently this is not well implemented in WT and it leads to some issues.

  1. Vehicles and other objects (i.e. bridges) are visible through clouds
  2. The clouds never move (or move unrealistically slow)
  3. There is no wind effects (wind moves the clouds, so this is likely related to issue 2)
  4. Thunderstorms… are typically associated with lots of wind. Flying through thunderstorms in Military aircraft is inadvisable for a number of reasons, none of which are modeled in WT (so it’s pointless to have this weather condition)

The variety of weather should be more realistic for fighting conditions - weather does dictate sorties (especially bombing and especially in WW1-Korea war era but even modern aircraft don’t typically fly in thunderstorms).

It should be more like:

  • Clear
  • Cloudy (With white puffy clouds)
  • Partly cloudy (Scattered white puffy clouds)
  • Overcast (with varying base and tops)

You can have these conditions without much wind so this would be realistic but the minute you start adding rain and snow and thunderstorms you need to also at least add some wind effects to go with it.

Yeap, acording to gaijin, Sinai and Tunisia should be tropical rain forest, clouds all the time XD

Don’t get me started on Density Altitude…

Today i got thunderstorm evening its by far was worst weather combination i ever got. Bellow clouds you cant see anything, everything is pitch black and if you get in cloud you cant see your cockpit at all.

This was my cockpit in cloud i had zero idea what my orientation was

You tried to turn on your headlights? :D

Puuuuh, it realy is a horror in props.

At least at lower BRs, at higher BRs I think there should be a wider range of weather conditions. Where “All-weather” aircraft are common.

But there does need to be an overhaul of weather systems in war thunder and more variety on time of day and weather

You should have a cockpit light button (you may just need to map it). What were the tops at?

Yeah. I had a Hayabusha game where the only real deaths were people crashing from getting disoriented. Fighting for A point was just random jumpscares of seeing an enemy plane and then they disappeared without any ability for anyone to track the other due to the clouds and darkness.

It was not fun.

It was on :)
You can see bit of instrument shining above mouse joystick area. Cloud on this condition is stronger then cockpit lighting. This is less then 10 sec after screenshots.

I dont understand question :(

Hey, how’s your Fw-190, still slower than Ki-100? ;)

I assume, you mean my BF 109. ;)

But that iis OT now. so we should stop

It was FW-190 in THAT battle ;)

Only on higher graphics, those at lower ones cannot see nor use it. Which is dumb but i guess that’s due to it being a bloom rather than baked.

I wrote about it recently. In my opinion, the host of the battle should select the time freely. If this is not possible, it should at least be fairer. It’s a useless system, like having to open 15 servers with closed time to get 1 server with free time.

Another nerf from Gaijin without consulting its customers.

Yesterday I had a battle in these terrible conditions. And I have to say, it´s terrible like hell.

I´m not here to fly with IFR all the time. I can do that in MS Flight Simulator but I never do it.

These conditions make me feel like I´m in a cage, not a free flying bird in the Sky.
There are no missions in Sim that would justify such flightconditions.
In Props, all you can do is to quit such a session and start a new 1.

Sometimes I start 5 to 10 sessions just to get 1 with thin clouds.

I’ve no idea what happened over the past few days, but the only lobbies I can find that are 4.0 compatible are:

Evening and after an hour or so in, I cannot see anything that’s against the ground.
Cloudy, so cannot really see anything in the sky either.

I pick Bulge because Bulge has great visibility. I look around - whole map is dark and black clouds and the ground is almost as dark as the black dots wherever forests are.

It’s not been very enjoyable. It’s very cinematic to be above clouds, but I barely ever find targets flying over the clouds and even if I do - all it takes to lose a pursuer is to dive into the map-wide cloud layer and stay there for a while.

Even if there’s no clouds though, all the evening maps turn unplayable on my visual settings pretty quickly. Planes blend in with the ground forcing flying like a snowspeeder in star wars to have a decent spotting chance. That might be settings though, so I’ll gladly take any advice to improve that.

This is so much worse in VR… not only is it hard to see planes below you because they blend in with they also disappear into thin air seemingly randomly (you can almost always see your friendly aircraft and AI aircraft from across the map but you can only see player enemies that are far away if they’re spotted by your teammates (real or AI) - it makes no sense… I’ve seen this also be effected by radar in higher tiers.

Really makes me wish spotting mechanics were transparent. One would expect the only determining factor in sim would be mere engine limitations and graphics settings for visual spotting. I did find it to help me to turn off anti-aliasing, but not sure how bad that is in VR.
