Why not both? Also I think we only saw the J-50 fly like twice, whereas J-36 has had a much more frequent flight record across 4 separate variants. I’d be willing to bet some changes to the J-36 may very well make it over to the J-50 as well.
the key is, Shenyang factory is not so close to downtown as Chengdu factory, so there is less chance people see it, and usually in high altitude with little details.

effectively a early F-16A that was upgraded to the modern standard of the early 90s equipped with IRST (1992) or 2 of them depending on which year you look at
