because there’s conflicting sources. secondary sources think r-74 exists. primary sources dictate only r-73, r-73e, r-73m, r-74m, and r-74m2 exist
secondary sources are not as reliable as primary sources, so I think r-74 don’t exist and is a mistake

That feels like medias calling the Russian Su-35S “Su-35”
su-35 is export designation of su-35s. it is also export designation of su-27m.
for example, primary exporter of russian arms calls it su-35 because that is what is exported
Yep but Russian ones are called Su-35S and most media still call them Su-35.
Overall I just hate that bad habit Russians have of making a gazillion plane variants and giving them a gazillion different names that aren’t even coherent/consistent with each other and reusing names of cancelled projects. That brings in so much confusion
