So based on what Gaijin is saying here…what Fox 3 missiles are next? For RU at this point the only Fox 3 missile they have that has similar range to an AIM120 would be the R-77M vs AIM-120D!
That part always stood out to me as such a weird choice of words. It says that redfor is “slightly” behind and R-77-1 wouldn’t offer much of an upgrade (and, therefore, offer “slight” upgrade), then adding said small upgrade to close said small small gap sounds like a nobrainer, does it not? And yet here we are, not confident if even 30SM will get anything in that regard.

Based on what Gaijin said they could add the 77-1 to the 30SM this update and it wouldn’t really do anything :/ I was always under the impression the 77-1 and 120C5 were close to each other in terms of range because of the changes to the 77-1.
My prediction is…that half way through this year or for Christmas we will see a missile update…if it’s Fox 3s 0_0 they have Nowhere to go but PSYCHO level Fox 3s
I mean, the only thing holding Su-27SM back is the scan rate of its radar.
30SM will likely lose energy retention and some flight performance due to thrust vectoring engines [if it has them], but gain in radar scan rate.
No one is BVRing 77s like they do the 120s and that’s not just due to the platform shooting them! GRID FINS are its DEATH!

Thats the thing, I know weapon loadouts are balance value blah blah etc etc, but as far as I am aware 30SM could, potentially, get one consisting of 10xR77(-1?) + 2x27ET + 2xR73. That is very much a subject of debate, but given gaijins track record of eyeballing such things I honestly wouldnt be surprised. Which paired with hopefully better radar and maybe even 77-1 could offer something more or less comparable to hordes of rafales/EFs we have as of now. Something among the lines of F4S, like “your FM is strictly worse than many, but heres your gazillion missiles, go do a crime”. Would be interesting.
As far as I know the 30SM still only has 12 missiles total…it just takes two pilons from between the intakes and puts them on the wings.
