No, it is one, and, as I said, has been directly and explicitly confirmed to be an AIM-9M.
The Magic II is nigh unflareable within roughly 1.5km and difficult out to 2.5km, and the AIM-9M requires significantly more flares than the AIM-9L to decoy.
Drives me nuts sometimes. We have docs that Aim-9L should be basically impossible to flare in rear aspect when a target is on AB. You’d figure Aim-9M is even better than that (heck there is an account in a book by Paul Tremmeling that talks about the difficulties of doing live fire exercises with AIm-9ms. They liked disregarding the flare packs they were fired at and going for the target drone instead, they were that good at ignore flares)
but in game. THey seem instantly defeated

Spading the Jaguar IS currently. Magic IIs get defeated all the time under those conditions. Starting to drive me nuts actually
What aspect do you usually launch in?
Not a lot of choice in the matter in a Jaguar IS. Sometimes front, sometimes side. Rarely rear
Though did have an F-5E defeat a 9M with 2 flares in rear aspect hte other day. But that is an F-5E. They are impossible to kill with an IR Missile
Strangely enough my friends also complain about that a lot SPECIFICALLY coming from the IS
Wheras on the 2K5F I have no problems
That makes sense. Front is very difficult even with the Magic II’s IRCCM, and side is easier but still not easy.

Itll be hard in the Jag and you also have to account for fuse time but last second Magics tend to work well in headons

Yeah, i’ve had the odd kill with them. what I really need to do is give up in ARB, and grit my teeth and take it into ASB. I dont even want to fly it, but 50k RP to dump straight into the FA2 is just too tempting to ignore.
But overall. I really want all IR seekers buffed or IR signatures of aircraft overhauled, with targets actually hotter. Especially on AB

The AIM-9Li doesn’t have a smokeless motor. The RB74M does. The RB74M is an AIM-9M.

I would also like more flares in that case :p and maybe we finally get seperate uses this patch too
If done right, the only extra thing you’d need to do is throttle down out of reheat. Then flares would work the same. Harriers could also VIFF to reduce IR signature as well in a rear aspect shot.
Though speaking of flares. God I hope BOL get overhauled this update.
