I doubt we are getting the version of the CF-188 that has an AESA radar irl.
i mean gaijin did say they wanted to add more AESAs at top-ish tier… so it’s a possibility at least (i doubt it’ll happen as well fwiw)

Oh god, that is 100% something they would do… Deny CAPTOR-E by slapping an AESA on an F-18 C&P at 14.3
I believe even among all the upgrades, the most unique weapon is the CRV7s, and even then, it’s not that unique.

This is very much true.
Main reason I have doubts is because of how they handled the Swiss Hornets, which were just straight up C&P of the US Hornets.
It would be odd to get, as the AESA CF-188 is the HEP upgrade, aka the most recent one. So later weapons like AIM-9X and later 120 variants.

The finer details of the loadout probably wouldn’t be a concern for gaijin in this hypothetical situation, based on other aircraft

My thoughts on the leaks:
I’m seeing a lot of people saying that this update looks “boring” or is “filler.” I don’t necessarily agree but I see where they are coming from. For what seems like 2-3 years now, almost every update has included some vehicle that really pushes the meta for one of the modes. This one doesn’t seem to have that (at the moment) and is instead focusing on filling gaps, subtrees, and more artillery. While I don’t think that’s a bad thing at all, I can definitely see why people aren’t excited about it.
Personally, I think there’s a lot to appreciate here. I’m especially excited for new seaplanes, the Norwegian air tree, the new SAMs (I’m really excited to get back into grinding France) and Gloire.
Looking towards the future, it seems as though the “new vehicle classes” are probably going to come in the fourth and fifth major updates of the year. That’s probably where the really exciting stuff is going to come into play.

This seems like a decent update to me, but while I agree we don’t need to push the meta all the time, there are nations that are still behind at top tier and they should get some stuff to catch back

Still be a troublesome pick for additions. As they’d be adding the current service version, with weapons that are at best the IMP I upgrade, which at that point, just add the IMP I, all it is is an early radar at that point. (Yes, I’m aware there are a bit more cockpit differences but…)
Although the radar is compatible, Thailand has yet to be seen using Derbys on any aircraft for that matter. Promotional images suggesting their presence in the armament might not be enough for gaijin, and they may very well stick to IR AAMs only. It’s also never been seen with the LITENING TGP either last I checked, neither has any F-5 upgraded by IAI for that matter, despite claims of its integration for the center pylon.
So the F-18C problem all over again perhaps?
Idk but for air arcade these are a welcome addition for sure because the rank 3 lineup is very lacking at the moment

What are the biggest gaps at top tier? I’m pretty familiar with the most dominant vehicles at top tier for each mode (Rafale/Eurofighter, Strv 122B+/Leo 2A7V, Soyuz) but who is really “behind” at top tier, totally missing a top tier vehicle? Obvs there are vehicles that people would argue are underperforming in each category, but who is really “missing” a vehicle at this point?

Still to me makes no sense to add them when sweden lacks any 5.x aircraft but whatever i guess using a 4.7 in a 6.7 uptier at 5.7 is fun and balanced…
Would rather gaijin fill holes first over fluff but at least its a tt Norge selection of aircraft
