Well, first of all, I don’t get your point.
Are you saying that, because the newer additions would still not be as good as the 2A7/122s, that they should be looked down on to?
We should always try to get as close as possible to whichever degree is possible.
Even if these tanks still weren’t still as good as the 2A7s/122s, they would still be MUCH better than the options we currently have ingame. And, on top of that, they would add stronger spawns to the lineups, reinforcing the nations as a whole.
Leopards may be 10/10s.
And these tanks may be 8-9/10s.
Sure, still not 10/10s- but still better than the 6-7/10s that are currently facing those 10/10s.
So I don’t really get this. Now, to the specifics:
M1A2 SEPv3 weights 66.8 tons without any additional equipment (APS, ERA, etc- with those it goes beyond 70 tons).
I assure you the confirmed (not alleged) composite armor improvements wouldn’t be “marginal”… if Gaijin implemented it with the values available, the new hull should be able to withstand shells such as L27A1, DTC10, 3BM60, OFL F1, DM43, etc.
Not to mention- if SEPv3 was implemented with TROPHY, it would gain immunity to ATGMs such as those fired from BMP-2Ms, KA-50/52s/Mi-28s, Eurocopters, etc.
Why would we need to pen the turret of the 2A5s to be competitive? Almost no one can pen anyone’s cheeks in Top Tier.
Speaking of which: the whole Abrams turret side armor and even cheeks can be penetrated at some angles. SEPv3’s wouldn’t.
In a sidegrade way, yes. It would have much better armor than the current Abrams tanks while still boasting a 5 second reload. It would still not be as survivable, but it would be much stronger than the Abrams already ingame, bringing them closer to being actuall counterparts to the 2A7s.
And even if it weren’t the case: as I said earlier, it’s still much closer than SEPv2 as currently implemented.
Shard can literally slice through 2A7’s current ingame values. Its penetration sits around 700mm, while the 2A7s currently sit at 660mm KE values.
